In a cold winter evening where most of the shops are closed and the town is dark, you just want to find a place to have dinner and get some warmth.
As it is the only respectable restaurant opened and in the town centre itself, we went in to have our dinner.
We had the 1kg mussels for starters and the mussels came with aquatic weeds with them. Probably should have cleaned them more thoroughly cos we don't see these aquatics weeds when we ordered mussels from other restaurants.
The salmon was ok while the pasta that came with it was a tad too over cooked.
The venison burger was good though.

This is a family restaurant. Expect average food. A comfortable setting / atmosphere. All very nice but all very average.

Except the service. This was excellent.

Pleasant view. Able to sit outside. Right in the middle of town. Price ok - remember you're in Te Anau.

The mashed potato came in a little pot - a bit weird but overall the meal was pleasant. I felt the steak might have been beaten to death before it hopped on my plate.

Come in here for dinner while staying in Te Anau. My mate and I both ordered the venison pie with kumera chips and salad. The pie was ok, all I could taste was a strong beef stock flavour and not the venison. The kumera chips didn't come with any sauce but was given some when asked. The 'salad' which was more of a coleslaw, looked and tasted about 3 days old. Mine was full of cucumber and my mates had none. I would describe the service as 'inattentive' not really looked after at all.

They serve a pretty good leg of lamb here. The meat is moist and tender (easily peeled from the bones) and it is complemented with sweat peas, a tasty mash potatoes and a dark savoury sauce.
The mushroom soup and Caesar salad were average so not much to comment there. If you are in the area and looking for a good lamb dish, do pop in and give it a try.

Price is reasonable and service is adequate. All in all a good friendly pub restaurant.

We really enjoyed our meal here and it was a good menu for our kids. The food was hot and very tasty. Our 3 teenagers all enjoyed their meals too. And good value for a family. Our waitress was very friendly. We will definately return there when back in Te Anau.
