My husband and I stayed here for 1 night after our trip to Milford Sound during the day. We booked it through the Entertainment Book so got a great deal of only $117, so for that price we thought it was value for money. We stayed in an upstairs double hotel room and found the room to be all you need for a 1-night stay - clean and comfortable. It wasn't as shabby as what I was expecting. It's close to the lake, which is nice, but we didn't head down there.

Cons were:
- One of the furthest places from the restaurants/ cafes. You can still walk there but in the rain we decided against it. Had it been closer, we would have just donned our rain jackets and headed out.
- Very limited parking - this was very frustrating for us as we had to park our rental car on the back street - security issues.
- Another parking problem - there were about 3 incompetent drivers who parked over 2 spaces each in the main car park (which is already very limited) and when I told the guy at reception this he just said that they didn't provide their car rego details (which everyone does on check-in anyway) and couldn't do anything about it. Ah, how about tow their car away! Or put a note on their window! Or, if you have a speakerphone, tell them to move it immediately!
- To get through the property, there is only a one-way lane. My husband managed to drive around in the morning to the car park (lucky there was 1 spot available) so we could easily load our luggage in, but when leaving a massive tour bus full of Asian tourists (which the hotel caters to quite heavily) was in the way of the exit. The driver wouldn't move forward so we could get out with enough room. The hotel needs to direct these tour bus drivers to pick their guests up on the street where there is plenty of room so as to not inconvenience other travellers.

Overall, I probably would stay here again as the room represents value-for-money, but would be wary about what time f

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review regarding your recent stay at the hotel. There are a few days during the busy season that our parking space available is insufficient and yes it doesn't help when people cannot park between the marked spaces. I apologise for the coach driver not moving forward to allow you room to exit the hotel driveway , we will endeavour to be more forceful with the drivers.

Kind Regards

My father and I stayed in separate rooms, but both experienced similar issues. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything from next door. There was some weird plant / equipment outside the window that made a huge noise every hour during the night, and at breakfast, the staff were surly and unfriendly. Very different to every other experience in NZ! As others have said - no lake view from the rooms, only from the dining area. It's not too terrible though.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review regarding your stay at the hotel. I apologise for the machinery making noises during the night as we were unaware of the issue until last week and it has now been attended too. Most unusual that the breakfast staff were unfriendly as they are normally a very happy team.

Kind Regards

Well presented large rooms, with all the usual appointments, beds are very comfortable as well. The staff a friendly and eager to help with the bags, which is good, as our room is upstairs. Recommended.

Very average motel that we booked only because of a lack of availability for the 1st of January night. The motel is well presented on official website, pictures are very yammy but in reality it is far different. Just an average place with rather small rooms with no view even though the website and the motel description mentioned lake view rooms. As a matter of fact only hotel restaurant has limited lake view across the road hidden under trees. Our room was clean. A little disappointment was that we were convinced at the reception by the hotel staff to book and purchase via them a ferry tour to see Milford Sound even though it was obvious that the weather will be extremely bad. As a result we spent time and money for nothing. It would be nice if they warned us and advised no to go or postpone the tour.

Dear Reviewer,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review regarding your recent stay at the hotel. I am sorry to read that you were disappointed with your stay at the hotel. The weather can be quite different in Milford Sound compared to Te Anau. Although disappointing to take the trip to Milford Sound in the rain the waterfalls would have been spectacular.

The hotel is just by the beautiful lake. The rooms are spacious and comfortable but could do with a make over, and the reception staff is friendly and helpful. You can walk to the Te Anau restaurants and shops, and the hotel has plenty of parking available. A negative point is the price of the wifi.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review regarding your recent stay at the hotel. Unfortunately we have limited rooms that have an outlook of the lake, however the restaurant has a fantastic view of the lake and mountains.

We were allocated rooms in the "garden wing" - upstairs which might present a problem to elderly clients as there is no lift or porterage.
The rooms were reasonably well appointed and the bed quite comfortable, but the walls are rice-paper thin such that one could hear a plug being inserted into the wall socket and switched on in the room next door as clearly if one was doing it. Conversations were obviously clearly audible, too. Worse was some machine that crashed into noisy activity outside the bathroom for a couple of minutes every 2-3 hours during the night which made sleep impossible. It was aided by the rather noisy fridge!
The location is excellent, the staff friendly and helpful and the breakfast good, but this is more a motel than hotel.

Room Tip: Request a quiet room!

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review regarding your recent stay at the hotel. I am pleased that you enjoyed the location, staff and your breakfast. I am at present investigating what the noise from the machine was that made your sleep impossible during the night.
