This is one of the best tracks in the world! the scenery is absolutely amazing and there are thousands of photo opportunities. there are lots of beautiful waterfalls and always be prepared for some rain. I recommend you go on the Key Summit side track, leave your heavy backpacks near the sign because its a long hike up but the view is worth it on a sunny day.

The scenery was spectacular and the waterfalls were stunning due to the constant rain. Always be prepared for copious amounts of rain. The cabins were adequate, however the Rangers were less than helpful and were "stingy" with the distribution of the fire wood to the paying guests. Consequently, it was very difficult to dry the wet gear out, which made for a rather cold and uncomfortable stay. We found that large hiking clubs overwhelmed other guests when they arrived en masse. Our trip took place in Feb. 2011. The drop down menu does not include 2011. We would still recommend this hike in spite of all the obstacles.

This is one track you need to do, Its a lot more expensive now as you do need to book with www.doc.govt.nz to do this track, spaces are limited. I recommend you do it from the Routeurn Flat end ( Glenorchy) and come out near Lake Howden to the main road. It has some amazing views, you can do it 3 or 4 times and you will see different views each time

This was my first trek, so naturally I struggled a little. I only completed half of it on the routeburn falls hut side. It was absolutely beautiful scenery. The tracks and hut were incredibly well maintained. I would highly recommend this track for first timers, half the journey may be a bit too easy for those who like a challenge

We drove from Queenstown up to Routeburn Track entrance near Glenorkney to avoid the traffic we knew we'd encounter going to the entrance along the Milford Road. We did a day trek only. It was a beautiful walk through hidden alleys, along alpine ridges, past clear aqua rivers. We filled our water bottles in a spring and stood looking at each other like we'd never tasted water before. This is truly LOTR country. I was surprised Gandalf didn't step out from behind one of the magnificent trees along the route. One item to note: This is mostly an uphill walk so be prepared.
