We stayed one night before going to Doubtful sound. Hosts were very friendly and helpful and we were able to leave the car in the car park whilst we went on the over night trip.
The room was clean and had good facilities. Also had a good guest laundry. It was easy walking distance from the town and the lake.

The motel is located within easy walking distance of the town centre and in a quiet residential area. It’s a block back from the Lake and therefore doesn’t have that scenic outlook if that’s something you’re looking for in particular.

Our visit was only as a staging post for a trip to Milford Sound prior to heading south so we really just needed a decent place to rest our heads. We booked an Executive King Spa Studio on the ground floor to minimise the effort of transferring our luggage from the car although in the end we had prepared holdalls to take in and just left the bulk of our stuff in the boot/trunk. The downside of the ground level is that you have cars parked in front of your window (others, if not your own).

The owners have changed since our visit however for the record we found the previous ones friendly and very pleasant. We arrived early evening and as well as receiving milk and cupcakes we were given a recommendation for somewhere to eat prior to going along to our accommodation.

The room was reasonably spacious but not huge. There was a large comfortable bed, a very small table and a couple of chairs (it wouldn’t be that practical for two to eat a large meal at this in my view) and a small kitchen area with a fridge, microwave oven, kettle and some basic plates, cutlery. Storage for clothing was limited to a basic, free standing small wardrobe - ok for a short stay.

The bathroom had a spa bath with shower overhead - we didn’t get a chance to use the spa bath but the shower served its purpose. Everything was very clean.

Our room was next to the laundry but despite initial concerns there were no noise issues in our experience.

There isn’t a huge choice in type of accommodation in Te Anau, it’s mostly motels and in that respect Bella Vista probably met our expectations. At the time our room cost NZ$154 and in keeping with most motels doesn’t include breakfast.

On a previous visit to the town we took a scenic flight from the Lake on a seaplane with Wings & Water up to Milford Sound which was a spectacular trip and highly recommended. That trip to Te Anau also included a visit to the Glow-worm caves with Real Journeys and again, well worth doing as was their tour of Doubtful Sound however the latter is a full day out. This time we were looking to cruise on Milford Sound but sadly “missed the boat”! We were delayed on the road and missed the last boat by 5 minutes as it sailed at 3.15pm. A helpful assistant at a booking office within the café at Milford did book us for a fly-sail-fly trip from Te Anau the next day however they didn’t fly due to high winds. Oh well, next time…

Thank you for your review but as the new owners we find it unusual that you give a poor review so long after your stay. (Oct 2013) Some points you made were unusual. Most motels in NZ have car parking outside the units. In fact at Bella Vista we have very few directly outside rooms. The rooms are fully furnished including cooking facilities (microwave and 2 ring electric cooktop) and full cutlery and crockery pots and pans. The wardrobe is large by motel standards and is built in (not free standing) These wardrobes are very rarely used. The table (600 diam)and chairs are very adequate for a meal for 2 people. In fact 95% of our guests eat out at the many restaurants in the adjacent town centre. I trust the next time you stay with us you will appreciate the fully refurbished rooms.

Stayed here for 2 nights as a base for Milford Sound. The location is very good--close to the lake and town. The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. However, we were a little disappointed that there were no amenities like shampoo or shower soap provided. The room was simply furnished but clean and comfortable.

Thank you for staying at Bella Vista Te Anau. We are unsure as to why there were no amenities in the room as we do supply soaps, shampoos, conditioners and body wash in the showers. These are also replaced during servicing. Our rooms are adequately furnished with everything required for short stays

We stayed at the Bella Vista on our way to Milford Sound and it was a great choice. There was a new owner that was very nice and helpful. We were walking distance to a nice park and to town, close to the lake where we hiked part of the Keplar Trek that day. Although this is a chain hotel, this one met our needs and was very well taken care of. Dishes, soaps, teas provided. All was great - we'd stay there again.

Room Tip: We stayed upstairs, room was quiet and cool.

We stayed at Bella Vista enroute to Milford Sound. It was the perfect stopover. The manager was very helpful on arrival allocating us a ground floor room and directing us to a walkway to access the local shops/restaurants. Unfortunately I was not able to access the wi fi from my room. The room was equipped as a small kichenette with bar fridge. Would recommend .

Thank you for staying with us. I am not sure of the reason for not being able to access the free Wi-Fi as the motel property is a designated hotspot and should be available anywhere on the property.

Spent 2 nights at the Bella Vista Motel. Motel was very central and within walking distance to the town centre. We received a nice warm welcome and the owners were very helpful and friendly. Room was lovely and clean but very small and the "kitchen area" could be improved. There was no sink to wash dishes (had to use the bathroom basin) and this was difficult to get the jug under the tap, however the heating in the bathroom and bedroom was good and we were very comfortable.

Thank you for staying with us and for your kind words. The compact rooms do not have kitchenettes as our more spacious rooms do hence no sink. We wash the dishes from these rooms daily and don't expect the guests to do these in the sink. We acknowledge the taps are unsuitable for filling jugs in these rooms and intend replacing these with more suitable taps. We look forward to welcoming you back.

The hotel was dead central for everything. The staff that ran the hotel were very helpful and couldn't do enough for us. They recommended an amazing pie shop in the centre which is world famous for homemade pies. Very reasonably priced too. This is where stayed to do Glow worm caves and also Milford Sound (Milford sound is over a 2 hour drive)

Room Tip: All rooms seemed good. Although it would have been nice to have had a bit more space to do breakfast...

Thank you for your kind words and we are pleased you enjoyed the pie shop. The compact rooms are small rooms as described and the majority of people in those rooms eat out at the many restaurants in town. Our larger rooms are more suitable for eating in. We are intending to put TV's on wall brackets to create more bench space in these rooms. Hope to see you again sometime Cheers
