The proprietor, George, made our stay in the convent outstanding. He made us feel at home right away. He had recommendations about activities, restaurants and hiking. There was tea, coffee and wine with biscuits in the lounge area and a balcony overlooking the property or picnic tables to enjoy it on. The rooms are full of vintage furnishings with updated bathrooms. Breakfast in the morning was delicious! The place is on the outskirts of town, so it is peaceful retreat.

Hello!!

Thank you for taking time to share your experience with everyone, it`s very much appreciated.

George is wonderful isn`t he? His extraordinary personality and warmth when welcoming you is genuine, and filters down to all who work here. It`s an amazing atmosphere, and so happy that you`ve been here to experience this first hand.

We love to be able to assist with trip and activity planning, and make all bookings for our guests without any extra fees. We`re passionate about the Fiordland region, and our biggest satisfaction comes from being able to have you experience it for yourself with our guidance. We have really close relationships with all of the activity and tour operators here, and can guarantee lifetime memories as these people share our enthusiasm.

You`re so right about this being a calming place!! The whole of Te Anau is like this we think - there are no demands on your soul here. You can relax without the world needing anything of you - it`s an incredible feeling!!

Great to hear from you, sending you our best wishes :-)

Staying in the belfry sounded interesting, especially when it was a delightful, comfortable room instead of a bell tower. The moved, restored convent provided excellent accommodations with beautiful woodwork, stained glass windows, and comfortable furnishings. George and his staff welcomed us warmly and helped with recommendations for nearby restaurants and sightseeing. Breakfast was delicious and filling to support us during our touring. Afternoon tea and evening wine added to ambience and comfort. The quiet location is convenient to all nearby activities.

Room Tip: The Belfry is a large, comfortable room, a "upgrade" from some of the others.

Marvellous place to stay - we stayed 3 nights. The building used to be an old Convent. George so welcomimg and could not do enough to ensure the comfort of his guests. Delicious afternoon tea each day. Huge garden to wander around. Very quiet location on the outskirts of town. Handy base for doing Milford Sound.

Hello!!

So glad you enjoyed your stay with us, it`s really nice to hear you appreciate the large grounds and location in town as we do. There`s something special about feeling like you`re staying in a park, yet only minutes walking from town.

George is great isn`t he? I can say that this attention to others, and the bond you would have felt with him during your stay is truly his way with all people - during, and after work. This charisma carries through to all staff, and the delightful working atmosphere at Te Anau Lodge is testament to his guiding light.

Thank you for your review - it`s very much appreciated :-)

I was booked into the YHA in Te Anau while my family had booked into Te Anau lodge. Needless to say the YHA did not compare to Te Anau Lodge and when George heard my predicament he came to my rescue and found me a room. George and his staff could not have been friendlier and nothing was too much trouble for them. An excellent bed and breakfast.

We were lucky enough to stay in this glorious old convent on our way round South Island. George and his lovely staff made us so very welcome and we had a great room with a very comfortable bed and views across the huge lawns towards the lake. Nothing that we might have needed had been omitted and we loved the fun and laughter that we had with George (of course) and his staff who were so kind. Tea and coffee were always on hand for us to help ourselves in the sitting room and oh yes - that chocolate cake. Oh Yum! We spent a really really special two nights here and wished so much that we could have stayed longer. Another time most certainly. Thank you to you all.

Stopped off as part of an independent tour , and a real gem. Because of no taxi' s and bus service George drove us into town to the ' Fat Duck' and then picked us up later. Real service. Interesting history and set in good large grounds , which are very peaceful. Room not big but okay for an overnight stay. Good to know that the are also involved in the community with a 'Highlands Weekend ' in the grounds and also to try and renovate a local pier.

Hello!!

Thank you for your kind words :-) We love to be able to go a little further to ensure your stay is memorable, and to drive you to places we enjoy ourselves is as pleasurable to us as we trust it is to you :-)

We`re so lucky to have grounds this large. It`s a wonderful atmosphere, and quite unique to be set so close to town. The Tartan Festival attracts about 1200 people, and doesn`t even start to fill up our property!! We`re really excited about the Pier as we feel this is a cornerstone of the community, and looking forward to being able to share progress photos in time.

Our room sizes do all vary, and we understand that the historic nature of the building is different to alternate accommodation. We trust that the delightful nature of the B+B and the lovely team at the helm compliment our room styles :-)

Lovely to have had you stay with us, wishing you all the very best!!

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights in February as part of our trip around the southern part of South Island. We were made exceptionally welcome by George and his fantastic team, including the dog. The setting of the 'B&B' (that doesn't really do it justice) is spectacular and the views are outstanding. The first morning we were out very early to catch a cruise to Doubtful Sound, but George was around before us to give us breakfast at 6.45am. The second morning we had an amazing cooked breakfast in glorious surroundings. We strolled around the beautiful gardens in the afternoons, and shared a glass of wine with our fellow travellers in the evenings. We would recommend Te Anau lodge unreservedly and hope to return one day.

Hello!!

We`re so happy you had a lovely time here!! George is wonderful isn`t he!! He`s brought together an amazing team who believe in Te Anau Lodge unreservedly.

We`ve never wanted to over promise the offering we have here, and it`s probably most correct that we call our property a B+B, but to be able to show our guests around is one of the most rewarding experiences for us. To see your reactions to the views, the building and the grounds is a real privilege I think :-) It`s wonderful to be able to under promise and over deliver - even at the risk of not promoting ourselves fully in the first instance.

George is great for making life easy when you`re staying with us here isn`t he? He`ll be up at all hours to ensure you`re well looked after and breakfasted before your Fiordland adventures start.

Thank you for your kind review, and for taking time after your holiday to write about the positives you`ve enjoyed, it`s very much appreciated.

Until we meet next,

The team at Te Anau Lodge :-)
