“Love those scrambled eggs”
Reviewed 22 November 2010

Margaret and George are fantastic hosts. The Lodge is a relocated Convent, a very interesting story is told regarding the move . The dining room was the chapel in it's previous life and is a beautiful calm, relaxing spot to have breakfast. George makes great scrambled eggs!!

The Lodge is a great place to stay, it is not too far to the town centre of Te Anau where there are some very reasonable restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Very comfortable bed too!

We have just returned from New Zealand & had a fantastic stay in Te Anau at Te Anau Lodge. We stayed in the cathedral room & the accomodation was lovely & very clean with fantastic views from our huge bedroom windows. I could not rate this place highly enough & we absolutely adored our hosts George & Margaret. What fantastic people !!! they really made us feel welcome & were a pleasure to talk to & what a great breakfast George makes , we felt extremely looked after. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here.

An exquisite and charming lodge full of character and comfort. My friend and I were spoiled from the moment we arrived. George and Margaret are fantastic hosts, extremely welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. Breakfast in the chapel was delightful with George adding a musical touch on the piano and organ. George was a mine of information about the history of the lodge and the many options available to visitors in Te Anau. Margaret 's home baking was a treat. The rooms were extremely well appointed and individually decorated. All round a marvellous stay for Jenny and Di.

We stayed 2 nights at „Te Anau Lodge” in January 2009.

Location:
The Lodge is located in Te Anau on a large private ground near the lake shore. It took us about 1.5 hours one way to drive to Milford Sound.

Lodge & Rooms:
The lodge is an old convent and was transferred to Te Anau from another part of New Zealand. We stayed in the Luxmore Room on the ground floor, with a large window towards the lake and grounds. Everything was very clean & tastefully decorated. The house’s and rooms’ furniture is mostly antique which gives the whole place a special, very lovely ambience. Breakfast is served in the old chapel, which is part of the building, and is excellent. We wanted to leave early for our daytrip to Milford Sound and the hosts offered any time for breakfast that would fit our needs –just perfect.

We can highly recommend staying here and would definitely choose this place again for a stay in the Fiordland region.

George and Margaret are wonderful hosts for this converted convent B&B. Set in spacious grounds with views down to the lake but within easy reach of the town with its small selection of good restaurants. Don’t arrive too late in the afternoon or there might not be any delicious chocolate cake left to have with your afternoon tea in the library/guest lounge. Soft drinks, beer or wine are also available as is internet access.

Ask George about fishing, classic cars or tempt him with some golf shots on the front lawn. Cooked breakfasts to order are scrumptious – George plays the organ situated in the breakfast room (the original chapel) so if you ask him you can have breakfast with live organ music!!

Use the lodge as a jumping off point for an overnight cruise on Milford sound, George will even store your cases while you are away.

We can’t recommend Te Anau lodge more highly

Thank you George for being the perfect host of Te Anau Lodge. We like staying in places with interesting architecture and or a bit of history attached to them. The Lodge was a very comfortable lodging with beautiful views of the Lake. The bedroom was very comfortable , also with a lovely view .We appreciated being able to check our e-mails whilst sipping a glass of your nice Red Wine, and sampling delicious chocolate cake. The Library is a really lovely, cozy, beautifully decorated room. George was very helpful with recommending that we reserve a place at The Ratcliffe Cafe for dinner. We met Margaret briefly in the morning, and she was very friendly. George cooked us a delicious breakfast which set us up perfectly for our drive to Milford Sound. All in all, a perfect albeit too short interlude at a charming Lodge with a very gracious host. Te Anau is a nice little town, and we would like very much to return. Thank you George and Margaret.

What a magnificent job the owner did when he relocated & restored the old convent, beutifully furnished, Hosts George & Margaret were really great, breakfasts again were stunning, as were the views all around the location.
