Absolute pleasure from the moment we walked in. Ray and Margaret made us feel like old friends, but not in an overbearing way whatsoever, they have a lovely manner and we felt so welcome but also the right level of privacy. Amazing breakfasts as the other reviewers said. Request the Romeo and Juliet room, it's huge! We will be back...

We came to Shakespeare House as part of our honeymoon. We had stayed in quite a few B&Bs as part of our honeymoon and found this one to be average. The rooms are small and you can hear through the walls quite easily. We found that the B&B could use some modernising and thought that it felt more like a motel than a B&B. The Internet was also a bit slow, the bathrooms were small and the beds were a bit uncomfortable. That being said, breakfast is good and it is quiet at night, which helps get some sleep. We rate this B&B as average and more could be done to improve it.

We stayed here two nights, to make a day long trip to Milford Sound, based on TripAdvisor reviews. We were not disappointed. Our room was the "Henry V" room. It is on the very end and because of that it has windows on three sides. It had an oversize king bed and another single bed, two chairs and a table. It and the bathroom were clean and well appointed. It was large and and airy. The only disadvantage of this room, according to Ray our host, is that it is furthest from the WiFi and therefore can be spotty. We found we had no trouble connecting while in bed. I mean the WiFi. Ray was a gracious host making suggestions for restaurants, to suggestions on things to do in Queenstown, our next stop. Breakfast was outstanding and ranged from fruits, juices, cereals, breads and cooked to order items.

Room Tip: Go for the Henry V room.

Like most guests we spent 2 nights in this B & B. They were among the best nights on our trip to NZ. We slept in the "Romeo & Juliette" room - clean, comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast, which was included (unlike some other B & Bs), was amazing - delicious, generous and cooked to order. But the highlight of this B & B is the owner, who just can't do enough for his guests. makes every one of his guests feel very special.
Very highly recommended.

Room Tip: book well in advance.

A very pleasant stay. Ray is a great host, very friendly and always willing to help you for any need. The house is very cozy and the Shakespeare theme makes it even prettier. Breakfast is superb. You may want more?

My wife and I stayed for one night at the Shakespeare House prior to our Doubtful Sound overnight cruise. First impressions were a little odd, as the "House" is set up more like a motel with the rooms connected by a shared sort of hallway. It's also a slightly older place, so it's certainly not a high end lodging although it was clean and comfortable. But, this was more than made up for by the extremely friendly hospitality and very helpful owner, and for our needs, it was a great place to stay.

A few other positives about the Shakespeare House ...
- The motel-like setup allows for parking very close to the rooms, which was great for us because we used our one night at the House to bring everything in from the car and repack our bags.
- The gardens around the House are very nice, and it's a generally comfortable atmosphere.
- It's very easy to find, and in a great location close to downtown Te Anau.
- Free Internet!
- The cooked breakfast in the morning was great. Lots of options, and delicious!

A couple minor negatives, that would probably be fairly easy to resolve ...
- No shampoo in bathroom. Not a huge deal, but it's a cheap amenity that just about every other place we stayed did offer.
- The shower door was terrible.
- It'd be great if there were screens on the windows. It did get a little warm in our room, but opening the windows let in all kinds of bugs.

Overall, I do recommend staying here for a reasonably priced, comfortable and clean stay in Te Anau.

Stayed a total of 3 nights here in 2 different rooms and had a great experience. Margaret was extremely accommodating with helping us work things out when we changed our hiking plans to accommodate weather and ended up staying an extra night. She was also very helpful in making local recommendations. She went out of her way several times to help us out one way or another and we really appreciated it. Both rooms we were in were nice, though the second was better with a little kitchenette and a bit more space. I can't remember the room names but both were great. The bathrooms were very clean with great showers (especially nice after those multi-day hikes). The beds were comfy and we slept well. The breakfast was great with eggs cooked to order or an omelette plus yogurt and fresh fruit. Overall awesome experience in Te Anau. The B&B is a ~10 minute walk from the main stretch of town with the restaurants and shops and very convenient to all those places.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a little kitchenette!
