If you like things done in the old fashioned way, you will love this place, Good old fashioned welcome and service, Great rooms, the best breakfast i had in New Zealand and a very attentive and curtious couple to run it, i highly recommend this place, the best B&B we stayed in
It's just off the lake front and within easy walking distance of the main area

We stayed at Shakespeare House for 5 nights in December in the Romeo and Juliet room. The room was great, large and had a kitchen area as well. Our hosts, Ray and Margaret really made us feel at home and were so warm, welcoming and friendly. The breakfasts were great. Te Anau and the Shakespeare House was an ideal base, beautiful and quiet, nice change from Queenstown. We were able to go for drives and do some day tramps along the Milford Sound route. Coming back to chill for some R and R afterwards at Shakespeare House was a real treat. The cost of staying here was also very reasonable and provided great value.
We would highly recommend staying here and would go back anytime.

Great place with attention to detail - rooms are named by shakespeare plays - but more importantly very attentive to their guests. Cooked us breakfast at 6:20 in the morning as we had to leave early. First choice if we ever return to Te Anau. Thank you!

Stayed on night of 18/19th December and were really pleased that we did. Ray is an extremely gracious and genial host with an excellent knowledge of the area. The room was cosy, beautifully clean and comfortable. Breakfast was like having one big family meal with Ray, frying pan in hand, cooking up delights to order and looking suitably festive with Santa hat on. All in all, excellent value for money, surrounded by beautiful views and would definitely return if in the area again. Many thanks Ray, Kylie and your lovely children.

Wouldn't go back to this B&B. despite a lovely welcome and breakfast. The rooms are not set up nicely. It's like a partitioned off big cabin. Quite outdated. The beds are really not good. Do not book if you have a bad back!!! Good location, but besides it is lacking!

This is a great value b&b a short walk from the centre of Te Anau. What some would call dated we would call character; our room was comfortable, spotlessly clean and we were welcomed with the smell of lavender on our arrival with the fresh sprig on the bedside. Recommend a meal at the Redcliffe for great food and atmosphere.
Overall a lovely stay!

Absolute pleasure from the moment we walked in. Ray and Margaret made us feel like old friends, but not in an overbearing way whatsoever, they have a lovely manner and we felt so welcome but also the right level of privacy. Amazing breakfasts as the other reviewers said. Request the Romeo and Juliet room, it's huge! We will be back...
