“Absolutely superb!”
Reviewed 3 March 2014

We have just spent four nights at the Dock Bay Lodge and highly recommend it.
It is superbly situated, with the most stunning views over beautiful gardens, golf course and the lake, with the mountains in the distance.
We had a very luxurious suite, with a veranda to enjoy the views and wonderful breakfasts. Nothing was too much trouble for Dawn and Mark, who made us so welcome. Their little dog 'Colin' was an absolute character!
We will definitely return.

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely, but the suite in the middle of the house has the best views.

A beautiful setting beside a golf course overlooking the lake with the mountains in the distance. Wonderful suite that included a sitting room with a veranda to enjoy the views. Breakfasts were excellent as was the overall hospitality.

Had a most enjoyable two night stay with great hospitality by Dawn, Mark and not forgetting Colin the highly amusing Jack Russell. Nothing seems too much trouble for them, they booked our activities and then came and picked us up after an arduous mountain walk ( from the base of the mountain not half way up). The accomadation is extremely comfortable, great breakfasts, and we were certainly glad we made the detour to Te Anau to see them again

Thank you for doing a review, we loved seeing you again, it is hard to believe that two years have gone since you were last here. We have continued to have a very busy time and met some more amazing people. Take care.

In two words, highly recommended! And that's with a big little thumbs up from our two year old toddler who had a blast there too. The location and scenery is stunning and ensures you always know you are in Fjordland - with it's fast moving weather and changing light over dramatic mountains - its like looking at a living painting. The Lodge itself is very well designed and warm, charming with a fireplace and lounge, reading area and breakfast settings all separate, yet inclusive. Nights are whisper quiet and the beds, rooms, and bath/shower all very nice indeed. The breakfasts are the best we had in ages: a suite of healthy and hearthy choices each morning. The gardens...easy access from our room and living areas to a huge area that spills over seamlessly onto the golf course (which was empty and 'ours' to walk along on most days). We even started our walks into the nearby national parks, lake and river, right from our room! Well if you are still reading this, then it's probably time to introduce the wonderful hosts Dawn and Mark. They are simply fantastic, and always ready to help from the 1st email contact to the last wave good bye, with good tips and a smile, without ever being overbearing. And both were super friendly and caring with our little one, who was often playing with Collin (the friendly, fiesty jack russel) during playtime in the garden. After 3 weeks of roaming around the southern parts of New Zealand these 5 days were the highlight of our trip! A real Lodge, and well above expectations. 10/10.

Room Tip: We stayed with our toddler in the only ground-level suite which was very comfortable, generous in si...

Location! location! location! - set in a beautiful garden beside the 11th fairway with a superb view to Lake Te Anau this one could not be bettered. Every aspect of Dock Bay Lodge exudes quality - the spacious bedroom suites, the dining room, the food, the lounge, the terrace and the entrance hall with its elegant staircase. Dawn is a lovely, charming hostess who made us immediately welcome. She advised us what to see, how to make the most of our stay and where to eat in the evenings, calling to make the reservations. We arrived early afternoon and by 3pm found ourselves on a boat excursion to see the glowworm caves which we had not planned and would have missed if she had not suggested it and then immediately made the booking for us - it turned out to be one of the highlights of our holiday. Pity we were there for only 3 nights but it was a great way to end our time in South Island. If you visit Fiordland stay at Dock Bay Lodge.

Room Tip: The centrally located suites have the view of the lake.

We arrived at Dock Bay after a long trip on our motorcycle from Wanaka to be greeted by Dawn and her faithful furry side-kick Colin. From that moment on we felt welcomed and completely at home. We chose to stay in the honeymoon room as we were touring the South Island on our Honey-versary (honeymoon and first wedding anniversary rolled into one).
The sensational views across the garden, past the golf course and out to the lake and mountains are mesmerising. When we could tear ourselves away from staring out the window at the views we strolled the grounds, played fetch with Colin, watched a movie and relaxed. It was bliss.
We took full advantage of the local knowledge our hosts offered and as a result Te Anau is now my new favourite NZ holiday destination.
Mark gave us great advice re: what to do in Milford, plus suggested visiting the glow worm caves and Dawn suggested and facilitated the overnight stay on Doubtful Sounds.
These memories will last a lifetime however the highlight was Dock Bay Lodge itself. It takes a special kind of couple to be able to run a B&B well... and Dawn and Mark have broken the mould. The lodge is spotless, the bed was possibly the most comfortable of the trip, the shower was huge with multiple shower-heads, there is a spa pool, a gym and a sauna, home made chocolate chip cookies, a full cooked breakfast (of whatever you feel like), the quality of the produce, (the "mmm" inducing croissants). Dawn recommended great restaurants and even put on a load of washing for us and kept our bike in the garage on our overnight stay in Doubtful Sounds. Nothing was too much trouble.
Dock Bay Lodge has got everything right: quality, simplicity, beauty plus kind & thoughtful hosts. The perfect recipe for a successful B&B.

Thank you for your wonderful review which I am sure will help others. We really enjoyed meeting you and of course especially Colin. I have to tell you that when we received a lovely thank you card with some delicious doggy treats for Colin I felt quite emotional. Of course he is still loving the daily coming and going of guests and still going through his routine of entertainment. We would love to see you again and hope we can share another "honey anniversary" with you.

The host is most amazing, offering great advice what to do around Te Anau depending on what you like. She seems to be genuinely interested in making sure that you get the most out of your stay. For example, we did a hike to Lady Marion, which she suggested, and after that offered to put my dirty jeans in the washing machine.

The house is amazing, too. The rooms are very big, and the mattress is probably the best I ever slept on. Internet is provided free of charge and without any annoying vouchers, codes etc. (It is a bit slow, though)
