Only stayed one night on our way to Milford Sound. On arrival you feel like you have arrived in the Wild West. All rooms have billboards above them with names of shops banks etc. rooms were spacious ours had a small kitchenette. It is situated just a short walk from the lake which makes the short walk into the town pleasant. If you go to town check out the caravan selling sea food the Bluff oysters there are the best. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was waiter service which makes a pleasant change to a buffet.

Maybe its because we checked in on a day when Milford Sound was closed due to snow. Anyway it was a quaint looking hotel fashioned after a western movie set where all the rooms had billboards on top. The only difference was no cowboys checked in with their horse and no one carried guns around their waists. The rooms were big and the heaters very adequate. We had breakfast at their dining room and it did not disappoint too. A very polite lady took our orders and actually did the cooking as well. Not sure if this was a tight labor situation but it sure was different from where we came from (Singapore). The fact that there were only 3 families who checked in that day was probably why.

We were fortunate to stay at the Village Inn with our teenage children and also extended family. The units were awesome. Really comfortable beds, baths, great shower. The staff were really helpful and friendly. They were happy to store our gear while we were on tour. The units were also really quiet so we got a great sleep. They are only a few minutes walk across the park to the main shopping area - petrol station is nearby and lake at the end of the street. I highly recommend. And it was fun with the village like setting. But don't be fooled from the outside. The units are very nice inside.
