Te anua is not the most bustling place to sleep in new zealand. So expectations on hotels were low. We stayed at a villa which was ok. Very dark interior no views, its at the back of the hotel. And they charge more for them than a room. So get a room not a villa. Location was good but u notice this is a transit hotel

We stayed here for a night before setting off on our Doubtful Sound trip and were pleasantly surprised. The location is perfect, rooms were clean and staff were most polite. The biggest surprise was the dining. It was raining and we did not feel like going out so dropped into the casual dining area and had a wonderful meal. This is not a five star hotel but a good middle of the road hotel that we could not fault!

Room Tip: We had a room near the parking lot so parked our car nearby.

Dear kdorp
I am delighted to hear you were pleasantly surprised with the dining. Our chef did win the NZ chef of the year competition for 2013. We hope to see you back again in the future.

Very nice location right next to lake; helpful staff; pretty good value for money. good place to stop if you are driving back from milford sound to qt or elsewhere. not a luxury place but if the anau is just a stopover its a good option.

Room Tip: we had a lake view and it was quite good

Considering you are almost to the "end of the earth" in Te Anau and it is a tourist town in the middle of a very rural area, the hotel was more than we expected. Long walk to rooms. Very nice restaurant on premises. Staff congenial. Halls to rooms not heated, but better than walking outside to get to the rooms.

Room Tip: If walking problems, ask for close to lobby -this would still be a jaunt.

The hotel is in a very good position overlooking the lake and being within easy walking distance to the town. We had a warm welcome on arrival and were enthusiastically told that our accommodation had recently had a bathroom upgrade. We stayed in a two bed villa in the hotel grounds. The new bathroom is very nice but unfortunately the upgrade should have been carried out to the whole of the villa as the other rooms are showing signs of wear. The room didn't feel particularly clean. The villa is quite dark because the vegetation outside is very overgrown and close to the windows (although this does give some privacy from other guests) and the ceilings inside the villa are pine clad which is very dated. The window blinds need to be replaced as they are very thin and allow light through which meant we had a lot of light pollution from the outside light which was permanently on throughout the night, which we were unable to switch off. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice, which is served in a large spacious dining room. If we return to stay we would probably book two twin rooms as this would give us two bathrooms.

We stayed as a family of four over Christmas for 3 days in one of the Deluxe Villas. Our room was not ready when we arrived - they were extremely busy that afternoon and apologetic and we were given some vouchers to get a drink at the bar which was a nice touch. Villa was spotless - new bathrooms, good quality beds and linen/towels but it needs some sort of air conditioning. It was very humid and sticky and the windows open partially so it was very hard for us cool down. We are Location is very central. We are breakfast there every morning and had dinner in the Dining Room/Bar in the evenings. Again staff were very attentive and very friendly towards our two children. I had the chicken curry one evening, it was excellent. The Hotel does accomodate a lot of tours buses enroute to Milford Sound etc so the lobby can get busy but the staff seem to cope very well with it all. Would recommend
