Arthur House is certainly different and very interesting. We stayed for one night before travelling over Lewis pass to meet up with friends. Jackie and Charles were excellent hosts providing a super breakfast and an insight to the history of the house. They manage the house on behalf of the owner and as we were the only guests staying, we had the house to ourselves! A strange feeling. A lovely house full of antiques and the owner's collections from his travels. Jackie had pre-arranged dinner for us in the one and only quality pub/restaurant just a brief stroll down the road. The garden was overflowing with flowers in bloom - lovely.

Fabulous place to stay, fabulous hosts. Don't stay anywhere else! The rooms are so comfortable, the lounge rooms relaxing, and the breakfast sensational. Make sure you book ahead - even though we didn't.

What a wonderful old villa...we were welcomed by Jackie and shown to our room...which was large and sunny ...with antique furniture and a modern en suite. She showed us round the house ... 2 lounges with a large tv in one and comfortable couches...and a kitchen which we could use and could help ourselves to a glass of wine.

It has 3 large bedrooms rooms ..so would be suitable for a family or friends traveling together.

The next morning as we were the only ones staying ..we were joined by both Jackie and her husband Charles....it was a great breakfast and we had a good time exchanging travel stories.
I can definitely recommend this b & b...we felt so at home..it was like staying at a friends place.

Room Tip: We had the blue room...it was sunny and in the front if the house

We stayed at Archer House for one night, this place is a real gem and we would definitely stay for longer if we come this way again. We had the red room, it has the largest ensuite shower room, but the other rooms are a bit more interesting and catch the light in the evening.
The owner has a real eye for furnishing the house, and his two housekeepers are very friendly and helpful, we enjoyed talking with them so much we could hardly bring ourselves to leave.

An amazing house, glorious furnishings and garden, and perfect hosts. This heritage house has three guestrooms, each with newly remodeled, top-of-the-line ensuite bathrooms. We staying in the, bright, sunny blue room, (which is mostly white). Our friends stayed in the green room which has lovely stained glass. Throughout the home are beautiful (and comfortable!) antiques from across the globe, tastefully arranged in a non-cluttered way. The paintings and other wall art, including a variety of lamps, are well worth a look. Great use of color. What could have been a hodge-podge of artifacts and furniture with differing styles, cultures and historical times, was instead a well connected whole and was thoroughly welcoming. Kudos to Paul, the owner of the home, for such remarkable taste and opening his extraordinary home to travelers. Our hosts opened the whole house to us. This stop was towards the end of our two-week trip, and our last stay on the west coast. We were used to dumping our bags and immediately going out to explore. But this house was so interesting, relaxing and luxurious, that we decided to get take-away from a local Indian restaurant, dine al fresco on the patio in the garden, and toast our good fortune in landing this B&B accommodation. Unfortunately, we had only one night on our itinerary for this gem. Internet was free and easy to connect. We could also use the washer and dryer for free. Breakfast was complete with yogurt, fruits (including delicious canned black Doris plums), freshly made muffins, juices, cereals, toast etc. Our hosts gave us tips on restaurants, our next day travels, and a bag of muffins we had not consumed from the breakfast. I bought a knit cap handmade by our hostess Jackie that came from sheep she had owned and wool she had carded - doesn't get more authentic than that! Charles, our host, treated us to his photography and gave us maps and historical insights. All in all, fantastic! Thank you!

we stayed in archer house for only one night, westport was a stopover on our way to franz josef glacier. westport itself is not much to talk about but omg, the archer house must be one of the best b&b ever. this house is absolutely amazing. the rooms are huge and still cosy. the entire place looks like somebody traveled the world and chose the best to furnish this astonishing place. jackie and charles are great hosts and made us feel very welcome. we were lucky to be the only guests that night, so we had the entire house to ourselves. for breakfast, jackie surprised us with freshly baked delicious muffins, there was also a wide variety of cereals and lots of fresh fruit as well as different breads. the bathrooms are very modern and of course the place is very clean. if you stay in westport, it is a must to stay at archer house. do not miss the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of it.
