You have two options to walk to this seal colony. One is to do the very short walk (5-10 min) from the marked area closest to the colony. The other (which we did) is to start at the lighthouse and walk for about 45 minutes (each way) to the seal colony. It's a really nice, easy walk along a dirt path, with pastures on one side and the ocean (with some amazing views) on the other. The seal colony is pretty cool .. we saw at least 20 or 30 seals on the rocks and in the surrounding water. The viewing platforms are a bit far from the colonies, but it's still worth a visit, especially with the lighthouse hike.

Having been really close up to sealions and seals further down south (not too near I hasten to add) we were a little disappointed at the height the look outs were to these gorgeous creatures. We had walked along cannibal beach etc and been on the same sands some others. This is a beautiful place up on the cliffs and altho' the seals blend in well with the rocks, and can be difficult to spot, they just seemed sooo far away. Too much so for good photos. For anyone whose first glimpse of them is here then it would be very exciting for them. The surrounding cliffs are lovely and there are some nice walks from here Our best find here was along the coast a bit by a long sandy beach, we were able to freedom camp, as we are self contained there was no problem, just us and one other van in a layby overlooking the beautiful beach with a great sunset, and later watching the masses of stars including the Milky way etc, sheer bliss.

I had been told that not many seals were about at the moment (mid march 2013), however we went again (3rd time out there) and still enjoyed the time. and better than 36 seals about mum and pups mainly

A great fresh breeze and an amazing view are just as good as the view of the seals. An easy 10 minute walk to the seal lookout.
