“Short stay”
Reviewed 19 August 2013

Our 'proper' hotel was overbooked, but the Cavo Spada where we should have stayed moved us here for 1 night. For a 4 star hotel, it appeared to give a family environment, and the food we had was very greek in influence and perfectly acceptable. Our welcome when we arrived was courteous, and we had assistance with our luggage. The rooms. as this is really an 'aparthotel' were large and had a pleasant balcony. The bathroom was small and a little dank, but acceptable. Facilities are not great, but then this hotel does not set itself out to be top grade. Lounge and bar areas were comfortable, and the pool appeared clean and well kept. Pool towels were available for a small deposit. The all-inclusive is a bit strange as for instance gin & tonics were not included ?? Anyway, I reckon for a mid price hotel this is fine, but it is a pity that the 'pool' barman does not seem at all happy in his job !

Room Tip: There is a smaller 'quiet' pool if you do not wish to be too close to tjhe 'ankle-biters...

A clean, tidy, family run hotel that catered for all of our needs. We enjoyed an excellent value for money package and got what we paid for and a bit more, we went on a half board basis. Evening entertainment was lacking apart from the weekly karaoke. We never had a problem getting sun beds around the pool, never queued for food and seldom for the bar. Rooms were in good order and very clean, we had an excellent view of the jacuzzi pool and sea. Our youngest daugher was upgraded from half board to all inclusive in line with what the hotel website was offering, this saved us a bit more money We would thoroughly recommend this hotel if like us you are on a budget and not looking for five star.

Room Tip: We emailed the hotel prior to departing and requsted a sea and pool view which we were given.

We were holidaying in late July from the UK and booked through First Choice with an excellent value for money package. The entire property is spotless with an army of dedicated staff looking after you and everything around you. Rooms arranged in the main hotel and 3 further buildings around the clean pool and immaculate gardens. In room TV has limited service and the sets are old with no facility to hook up your iPad to play your movies. Beds were big and quite firm in our room - as expected at this type of place.

Several tour operators are working with Selini and guests are from all over Europe. The week we stayed the French were in bigger numbers with some Eastern Europeans too.

Food is fresh every day. The place lacks a chef on the floor offering eggs to order at breakfast and a grill or BBQ at lunch and dinner, but all meals provided were of good quality with variety too. The salad bar is great at lunch and dinner.

If your travelling with little ones they have sufficient high chairs of different types and plastic plates, bibs and all that you need.

Tavernas in the immediate vicinity are hopeless (most food is fried from frozen despite menu descriptions stating "from the grill"), but Kolybari town (€8 by taxi) has an excellent fresh fish restaurant called Argentina.

Borrow a bike from the hotel and ride up to the Carrefour to stock up your in room fridge. The local shop has it all but is pricey in comparison - it is nice to support the local shops but with a 4x mark up on beers you can make your own mind up.

There is no evening entertainment except a weekly karaoke. games room is a little under-invested. Frequent bus service into Platanias (nearest party town) and on into Chania.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and although not ones to return to places we met many other guests who have been returning for years.

Well what can you say other than what a fantastic find. My partner and I stayed here for a week at the beginning of June and based our decision of the reviews here and it didn't disappoint. The staff are wonderful, friendly and very helpful. Food was varied, fresh and the service excellent apart from a few irritating flies which could be sorted I'm sure. The rooms and hotel grounds spotless with plenty of space for lounging. We loved the free bike hire as it is a little isolated in terms of walking to larger towns but that's exactly what we wanted. It is family run, efficient and provided a perfect relaxing break and excellent value for money. Would definitely return and would like to thank the hotel staff for a lovely week - Aaron & Matt

We, 6 adults and 4 children, stayed for 1 week commencing 24 May. We had 3 studios, which were clean and reasonably spacious. The hotel was quite quiet until the last day when there was a major influx of eastern European holidaymakers. The buffet food was enjoyable and was supplied in 4 distinct ways - (1) Greek salad bar with feta cheese, olives, tomatoes, lettuce, onions and peppers. (2) Greek mixed salads including dolmades (3) Hot food - Soup, Pastas with sauces, 3/4 main courses of meat and fish with accompanying vegetables. (4) Desserts - fruit, cakes, puddings galore. Breakfast consisted of fried eggs, and bacon with the addition of sausages and scrambled eggs on different days. There was a welcome alternative of Greek breakfast - basically the Greek salad bar with the addition of boiled eggs, cold meats and cheese plus hot pastries and greek yoghurt and honey. How anyone cannot like the food served here is beyond me. If you want your British meat and 2 veg with chips, forget it, this place isn't for you. There is a poolside buffet which does consist of a replenished supply of chips, sausage rolls, cheese pies, pizza plus salad and fruit. The kids loved this. The staff are very welcoming and relaxed and the kids can jump in and out of the pool and use inflatables (not in the quiet pool area) but this is not really a family hotel. The facilities for children are limited to a rather tired playground, table tennis table and an extremely sorry looking play room. Our 4 aged 10, 7, 3 and a baby were happy to play in the pool during the day, but there was nothing in the way of entertainment outside of this. The only real problem I had was there was very little on the "all inclusive" alcoholic drinks menu that was actually drinkable. Greek wine is certainly an acquired taste and the local spirits were like petrol and served in huge measures that completely overpowered any "mixer". The beer "Mythos" was ok, but a few glasses by the pool was enough. Soft drinks were fine and the ladies in our party did enjoy the cocktails. The beach was a disappointment, pebbly and dusty but the weather was great 29 deg every day with 13 hours of sun. All in all it was a good family holiday and a very friendly and welcoming hotel. If the weather hadn't been good all that would have changed though.
