What a lovely position and what a lovely building. A wonderful inn with character, except for the inevitable modern extension. The view is amazing looking over the River Orwell with the boats either bobbing at anchor or moored on the river bank. Access by car is restricted, there is a small car park and a small public car park but still people come in their hundreds.
The food is basic, nothing wrong with that, but it could be done well to. The staff are supercilious if not actually rude, one girl did try to be polite but the effort was clearly too much for the rest. The food was all seemingly pre prepared, a lot of fried. Not very clean cutlery or crockery, not apparently very clean place. Sandwiches and rolls appeared good. Pricey for what it was.
All the signs of somewhere that does not have to try too hard, they keep coming any way.
