I was looking for something a bit different to do in the July school holidays with the our kids so after coming home from work one night in June I poured myself a nice glass of wine and sat down to Google "Farm Stay Holidays"! (not sure why, just popped into my head,so there you go....)
Anyway, it took less than an hour to decide on Barcoo's, especially after speaking to Elaine who I immediately took a liking to. She was so friendly & helpful I felt like I was talking to someone I had known for years. It was sort of like talking to your favourite aunt who lives in the country and she says "of course darling, come on down for a visit, we'd love to see you!"
My husband thought I'd had one too many glasses of wine when I asked him what he thought about going to Bathurst in the middle of winter but he soon climbed on board & it turned out to be just the break we needed. It was also a great excuse to rug up in all our warm clothes & stop at Mudgee for a couple of nights to stock up on more wine!
Our son and daughter, aged 13 & 9 both enjoyed the experience & loved how Elaine & Ken involved them in all the farm activities & took the time to teach them about the various animals. My daughter was so sad when it was time to leave & even begged to stay another night declaring she wants to now live on a farm!
i must admit I also trawled through all the reviews on Tripadvisor & it definitely influenced my decision. The positive reviews about Elaine & Ken and their wonderful hospitality are all true, Barcoo's is the place to stay if you're looking for that genuine Farm Stay experience. You won't be disappointed!

We stayed at Barcoos Barn Farmstay in Wardell Farmhouse a week ago. Our children aged 5, 10 and 12 all had a fabulous time - there was something for everyone! The tractor rides, feeding the animals, grooming the horses and then getting to ride them through the lovely countryside was fantastic. The highlight was the big bonfire night with the other families and Elaine and Ken. We would highly recommend Barcoos, and thank Elaine and Ken for their warm hospitality.

Fantastic experience, we went with our pop top van and were pleasantly surprised with our (ensuite - not officially) but only campers there on our 3 night stay. Just an amazing feel good place and Elaine and Ken were wonderful hosts with a true passion and love of all their animals. We have 2 children aged 14 and 11, oldest child enjoyed the bonfire night and getting involved with wood collecting, shyly enjoyed the chick feeding. Our 11 year old was up literally at cock crow and lifted baby lambs out of bed and led them to their paddock. Helped Elaine make the porridge for the chickens and brought our food left overs as treats for the chicks. Helped brush down the beautiful Miss Prudence and got to ride up the rolling hills with the lovely Elaine leading the way. Opened up the family of 5 chicks coop each morning and put in some extra bedding to keep them warm in this cold weather. We also bought some carrots, apples and sweet corn as extra treats for the animals and under the guidance of Elaine only our 11 year old fed the horses on ponies. Beautiful farm dogs and just looking for interaction with the guests. Last night with the BBQ and the most amazing Bonfire with some good company ended our wonderful stay and Elaine provided the home made bread to go with the sausages.

We stayed 2 nights, Elaine and Ken were lovely hosts ( Elaine made us fresh wholesome bread in the morning and the kids had rides in Ken's tractor). It's fun and educational for the kids - pony/horse riding, chicken feeding , etc). We got to BBQ our own dinner too! Rooms were spacious and cosy.

Had a great time at Barcoos Barn Farmstay. The kids thoroughly enjoyed all the interactive times with the animals, riding the tractor and playing on all the climbing equipment. Ken and Elaine are lovely people and really make you feel welcome. The accommodation is comfortable, rooms are nice and big and clean. Would recommend it to anyone.

Everything you could want here and more. Space, privacy, activities and views. Kids love the place as do adults and animals. Hosts are great and the accom is fantastic with many options. Wardell House is huge and brilliantly restored. Valley View and Hillview are also great. Nothing negative here - not sure why you would stay anywhere else in Bathurst, especially if you have kids or animals.
