I was looking for something a bit different to do in the July school holidays with the our kids so after coming home from work one night in June I poured myself a nice glass of wine and sat down to Google "Farm Stay Holidays"! (not sure why, just popped into my head,so there you go....)
Anyway, it took less than an hour to decide on Barcoo's, especially after speaking to Elaine who I immediately took a liking to. She was so friendly & helpful I felt like I was talking to someone I had known for years. It was sort of like talking to your favourite aunt who lives in the country and she says "of course darling, come on down for a visit, we'd love to see you!"
My husband thought I'd had one too many glasses of wine when I asked him what he thought about going to Bathurst in the middle of winter but he soon climbed on board & it turned out to be just the break we needed. It was also a great excuse to rug up in all our warm clothes & stop at Mudgee for a couple of nights to stock up on more wine!
Our son and daughter, aged 13 & 9 both enjoyed the experience & loved how Elaine & Ken involved them in all the farm activities & took the time to teach them about the various animals. My daughter was so sad when it was time to leave & even begged to stay another night declaring she wants to now live on a farm!
i must admit I also trawled through all the reviews on Tripadvisor & it definitely influenced my decision. The positive reviews about Elaine & Ken and their wonderful hospitality are all true, Barcoo's is the place to stay if you're looking for that genuine Farm Stay experience. You won't be disappointed!
