“Perfect Egg on Caesar Salad”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2014 via mobile

A good (or hopefully perfect) Caesar Salad is on of life's great pleasures. It's also one of my ways of assessing a cafe.

Elie's Caesar arrived with the fresh, perfectly poached egg perched warmly on top of the salad. This was complemented by perfect home made croutons (around 1x1x1cm).

My expectations at this point were high and as far as the egg and croutons were concerned I was not disappointed. 10/10

Sadly the rest of the salad was a disappointment. A couple of the lettuce leaves had browned off stems, the cheese was bland, the bacon pieces minuscule and tasteless. Fair cop, the type of cheese and bacon may be a personal choice. However:

THERE WERE NO ANCHOVIES. I'll repeat that a little more quietly. There should have been anchovies. Not many - even one. Well drained, evenly distributed, not clumped together.

Yes, they are mentioned on the menu!

Coffee very good and staff attentive.

I will return and hopefully there'll be a great home-made soup to try.

“needs a revamp”

great wait staff & superb coffee. Time for a change in the decor though. Dessert & afternoon tea menu could do with an update. How about a high tea option with or without a glass of bubbly?

“Worth Trying”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 February 2014

Well known cafe in main street. A little inconsistent but usually reasonable. I have been there a lot over the last 3 years and had a bit of everything. Usually breakfast or lunch. Coffee can be good but a bit lukewarm sometimes. A big menu so you shouldn't get bored. Good atmosphere. Lovely sitting at a table along the footpath across from the park on a sunny day but nice inside as well.

“Standard Oz cafe food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2014 via mobile

Had a late breakfast here one Sunday. It was fairly full but did take nearly 20 mins for our coffees to arrive. Foods good, but pretty average Australian cafe food. They do have a good variety so everyone will be able to find something.
