“Give this one a miss - noisy, hard pillows and attitude”
Reviewed 31 March 2010

We rang ahead as we were coming into Bathurst late at night. We thought that Best Western would give us a good standard having stayed in many in the USA. The room was very noisy, hard pillows and poor air conditioning. We couldn't open the windows because of the noise. The room reminded me of a prison cell. I got out and moved into the single bed in the room to try and get some sleep. We got a very rude call from them the next day when we left say ing that they would charge us for using the additional bed in the room. Very rude and bad attitude.

I'm not one to comment usually. I agree good value for money... a continental breakfast would be nice if included. Nice touches in the room.. stayed in a standard queen room with sofa bed.. didn't hear noise.. the only thing I really can't agree on with the other reviewers is the customer service, but maybe the manager was having a bad day! I found her quite brisk at check out and when I mentioned that the fridge didn't seem to close properly I felt like she bit my head off with a curt reply of "well it wasn't like that yesterday!" I left feeling like she was blaming me for the fridge... all I did was open it and it wouldn't close properly! It was sort of, well now that I've got your money I'm too busy to be nice! Sadly because of commitments I had already booked for a return visit, but quite seriously I am thinking twice about going back.. all because she couldn't muster smile and at least be courteous. She really needs to relearn her people skills.

You know what you get with BW, cheap, functional rooms, and the BW at Bathurst is just that, but it does have a few problems.

Firstly, the drains, them smelt, the bathroom door had to be kept closed to keep the smell at bay.

Secondly, location, slap bang next to the highway, which is used 24 hours a day by big trucks, and they are VERY noisy, even though they are not supposed to in residential areas, they use exhaust braking, alot, which is really noisy.

Unless you are a sound sleeper, or not worried about sleeping, don't stay there, insulation is next to nothing.

On the plus side, the staff are friendly, and the breakfast is decent enough, if a little pricey.

We needed a one night stay in Bathurst but had stayed at this motel on another occassion as a family group.

The Coachmans Inn is a Best Western property and presents very well from the extremely friendly owners to the neat and functional rooms.

We were accomodated in one of the deluxe spa double rooms and couldn't have been more comfortable or satisfied. Everything was clean, neat and spacious with the heating and electric blanket most appreciated on what must have been one of the coldest nights of the year in Bathurst. The owners, which we do know, were extremely helpful and attentive which is one of the keys to a great motel business. Little extra touches were most appreciated. The in-room breakfast was on time and excellent.

This motel is located just a little out of the Bathurst city centre but is easy to locate on the corner of the Great Western Highway and the Oberon Road. Surprisingly, for this location, traffic noise wasn't a great problem. Maybe we were too tired to notice.

Coachmans Inn represents excellent value for money and is recommended to all travellers looking for quality accomodation at a reasonable price in Bathurst.

I've stayed at the Coachman's half a dozen times in the last few months - it is the only accomodation in Bathurst that's on our corporater travel list.

The facilities are basic. The rooms are dated but generally clean and well maintained. The staff are friendly and generally helpful.

The first problem for this hotel is location. It is not in Bathurst, but actually the other side of Kelso - if your focus is Bathurst, you'll need a car. More importantly the hotel is at the intersection of two major 24 hour truck routes and on a slope. You have trucks engine braking or gearing down pretty much all day and night. This is worse during harvest times since there is a major fruit and vegetable processing plant a few kilometres down the road. With no real soundproofing be prepared for noisy nights!
