“We want to move to Grafton”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2014

We recently stayed in the Crown Hotel Grafton. The rooms were clean and tidy with beautiful views of the Clarence River. The rooms are reasonably priced.

The highlight is the magnificent Hotel with sweeping views of the Clarence rivers from the restaurant we enjoyed a fabulous meal.

A quiet spot, with wonderful hosts and staff. A huge asset to the city of Grafton.

We arrived in Grafton mid afternoon and I had always wanted to stay on the river. We stayed in an ocean front motel unit that was basic, but clean & comfortable and was value for money. The bistro serves meals at lunch & dinner & breakfast can be ordered as room service only. It was 36 degrees when we stayed here and was grateful for the air conditioning and the cross ventilation in the room from the cooler river breeze in the evening. Would stay here again when coming to Grafton.

We had a lovely river view and grassy patch for Beasley to enjoy the fresh air. The room was clean and comfortable and we had her kennel (Pajero) just parked outside where there was also a lovely shady garden for her to explore in.

We ate the hotel that night and I really enjoyed the Thai fish cakes as a main.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the Clarence River - they are very pleasant.

Huge verandahs over looking the river. Rooms are basic with small tv, fridge, kettle, micro wave and old style bathroom. The hotel is close to town, shopping, cafes, office blocks etc. Parking at the front of the building.

Rooms were quiet. With no pub or street noise while I was there.

The showers have water savers, but were ok. $65 for a single room, per night,

The hotel is situated on the banks of the mighty Clarence river and the ground level river view motel rooms (ask for these when booking) live up to their promise - the broad reaches of the river are serene in the early morning and home to the whisper quiet single and quad skulls from the local rowing club.

The riverview rooms are older style but refurbished and include a microwave, kettle and toaster, as well as the iusual fridge, tea/coffee, air con. and TV. The toiletries were a nice inclusion and the linen crisp. The rooms open on to a small individual patio and larger grass area where you can sit and enjoy the morning and afternoon vistas. Yes, you can hear next door's shower but it was not really obtrusive.

The bistro is only open for breakfast on a Saturday (gloriously situated) otherwise it is a 'take away' tray the night before. This did not bother us and there is a brilliant cafe/restaurant (refurbished old home) in the riverside park opposite the hotel. Breakfast here was truly excellent as were the offerings from 'Toast' a 5 minute walk away.

If big city sleek or absolute modernity is what you are after, the Crown River view rooms are not for you. However, for the modest sum of $95 per night (room breakfast - cereal, bread for toasting and pre-packaged fruit $15) they offer excellent 'motel' value. We are seasoned international travellers and would stay there again.

Other rooms are available including accommodation in the hotel itself. The main shopping area and cinema (very well worth visiting as it has been returned to it's original glory) are also within reasonable walking distance. The motel is slightly separate from the hotel (which we did not sample due to other commitments) and we were not in any way disturbed by hotel 'noise'. The motel does not have a pool if this is a consideration.

Clean and comfortable. Lovely staff and great old pub. Nice view across the mighty Clarence from our motel style room. Very convenient location right in the heart of Grafton and within easy walking distance to lovely cafes and pubs.

Room Tip: The rooms over looking the river are the go.

We stayed in a "river view" room in the motel ($95 double) the room was able to sleep 4 if needed, so plenty of room for the 2 of us. If it wasn't so hot you could sit outside your room facing the Big river lovely and peaceful. Room was basic but clean with all facilities.
The pub is only 20 mtrs away and has friendly staff good beer and great meals.

Room Tip: Pay the little extra and pick a river view room.
