“Luxury in Mayfield”
Reviewed 8 July 2013

I was unexpectedly required to stay over a couple of nights in Newcastle on business. I booked in at late notice at the Gateway Inn and discovered a little piece of luxury in Mayfield. I occupied a Hotel/Motel style room. The room was a good size and more than adequate for a pleasant stay.

The establishment is very modern and has everything that a business traveller could ask for. The room was squeaky clean, the sheets crisp and the bed comfortable. Shower and toilet facilities nwere ultra modern and again very clean. The double shower was an unexpected novelty.

The staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful. Just across a courtryard is the very well appointed Wests Mayfield Club where restaurants and entertainment, (including Pokies if one is so minded) may be found.

A breakfast in the Mayfield Club Bistro turned out to be a pleasing surprise. The doorman suggested that I try the Spanish Omlette and it was excellent; a nice change from the usual bacon, egges, sausages and tomato of most places.

I was there on a business trip to the CSIRO and it is literally just down the road. For anyone having business with the industrial businesses in Mayfield, this establishment is ideally located.

I will certainly be staying there again when I visit Newcastle.

I stay at the Gateway Inn recently for 6 weeks in a 1 bedroom apartment. The room was clean, well laid out and modern, with a great shower. The hotel staff were excellent, always friendly and helpful. While not a great location for nightlife and dinning there's the Churasco restaurant on the 6th floor (fantastic food) and a very good Leagues club next door with a great selection of well priced meals and drinks. As I was staying long term I paid $12 for a membership and received great discounts on food and drinks at the club. Hotel guests have free access to the Balance fitness club next door also with full size pool plus kids pool and a commercial Gym. I'd certainly recommend the Gateway Inn.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on opposite side of motel from road as traffic noise starts to build up from 0530.

We stayed one night on our way to hunter valley after a late flight. It's 20 mins from the airport, nice, modern and comfy. We had a great sleep in the big comfy king bed in a very quiet room and enjoyed the double shower. The girl on reception was super friendly too. It didnt appear to be near any restaurants or entertainment or anything, but we were only there to sleep so didnt mind. Would recommend!

I have recently stayed in te Gateway inn, first impressions, very nice, clean and modern, although my room was very small it was well presented.

Although there was a few negatives, the bed was hard and i had a terrible night sleep. there was no menu or list for the on site restaurants. on arrival the $200 dollars was taken from my account but i was not informed about this from the staff on the desk, i had to ask why my car was being taken and swiped.
The Churrasco restaurant was nicem although what i ordered was not what i received, i ordered chilli, ginger and cocunut prawns, they came in some sort of curry mix,
The Choriza with potatoes, olives and salsa actually came with prawns and tomoatos, although the food was nice enough to eat, it was not what i ordered.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming, i would return here in the hope i had a better expereince that the last.

We stayed at the Gateway Inn after a couple of very uncomfortable nights at an apartment in Jesmond. Room was nearly as big as the apartment. It was clean and very comfortable. Great shower and good supply of toiletries. Even though the hotel is next door to a large club it was very quiet. We had a beautiful meal at "Churasco" on the 6th floor of the hotel - no driving. The 2nd night we used the club facilities for a meal & a couple of drinks. Only negative is we had to run the aircon all night because of the heatwave in Newcastle, and it was quite noisy.

Room Tip: I don't think you can go wrong whatever room you have at the Gateway, however, my husband has st...

Rooms are in good sizes and I was lucky to have the view of a green area. Everything is new and clean. Two shower heads in the bathroom was a nice touch.
The down side was there was no wireless Internet available and the dial up one was way too expensive.
Restaurant, gym and swimming pool in the complex is a true bonus as the hotel itself is outside city and you have to drive to dine at least.

Stayed at the Gateway Inn Newcastle for one night on business, rooms were nice, clean and modern. The shower was amazing, built for two with nice large shower heads. The restaurant is next door attached to a club. They had a grill section and a pasta section and while the food was ok it had the feeling of a low budget food hall. Breakfast was served in the same place. The breakfast was nice (eggs done to order) but nothing special. A good clean hotel that I would probably stay at again.
