This is a worthwhile visit if interested in history. Otherwise just bring the kids, they will love it.

Fort Scratchley is a fun place to visit.Lots of things to see and do,and what a fantastic view.It was once an old fort used in WW2 Japanese shelled it but none exploded. I like it for the fantastic views of the harbour mostly.

I was not very impressed with the fort, but I am not that interested in this type of attraction so I was a bit "underwhelmed"
Great views & if you are fortunate to see whales it would be a bonus.

Fort Scratchly was built during the Crimean War with the thinking Russia may attack Australia. During WW2 Japanese mini subs fired a number of dud shells at Newcastle the site of the country's biggest steel works...none exploded. The guns of Fort Scratchley fired at the subs making it the only fort in Australia to fire a shot in anger. The tunnels and guns are fascinating. Worth a visit.
