“Rooms are clean, good facilities but sleep quality was awful”
Reviewed 3 December 2013

I stayed at CES Newcastle in room 102 on 30/11/13 Saturday.

Checking in and room was fine and staff was really helpful so no complaints there. However, when we tried to sleep in the room, we have realised there was constant ticking/popping noise coming from somewhere in the building which drove me and my wife crazy all night. Noise is very audible every 1-3 minute intervals and I am sure if you go to that room at night you can hear this. Sleep quality was awful.

In the morning we complained about this to the front reception and staff's response was "Its good to know thanks" and she did not take any further action which was disappointing.

Room Tip: dont go near 102 or around rooms

Stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment over the weekend and we were very impressed. Great location and facilities, clean room and comfortable beds. Car park is quite tight but lots of available spaces. Was a pity we couldn't have a late check out due to room being booked but was offered to extend our car park availability for the day - very helpful reception staff.

The place was clean, tidy and neat but I wouldn't call them "executive suites". The view was nice but it is quite noisy with the main street and train station located right in front of the buildings. The elevators are positioned strange so it was a pain to go from the two rooms we booked as we needed to go into two separate elevators just to get from room to room.

Although a little expensive - I guess after all we only stayed Saturday Night which is the most expensive- we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We ended up having to book the 2 bedroom harbour view apartment but the extra money ($50) was worth it.

The weather was beautiful and the moon was full so both day and night the views were so lovely and very interesting. Always something to look at. We loved the location- very handy- within walking distance to the beaches and the mall on Hunter Street . Only a tiny bit noisy with a few Saturday night revellers and the beautiful old clock bell on customs house chiming every hour.
The apartment was very clean, showers excellent and the beds very comfortable. Staff courteous. Make sure you keep your room card away from mobile phone as ours demagnetized and we had to call the night duty staff to get back into room. We had left the spare in the room accidently.

Our stay was all in all very pleasant and we would stay again -definitely in a harbour view apartment.

After driving 10hrs plus we turn up to the Chifly Executive Suites on Scott Street, booked through wotif.com to be told that we needed to have $100 on our credit card as it was company policy. We had paid for our room up front via wotif, the room was paid for and we were at the end of our journey so money was tight and it never advised us on the wotif email that the place required the $100 bond.

All the email from wotif advised was that we required ID, and a valid credit card with NO currency value to how much was needed on that credit card. Valid credit card means, one that is in date, Sundries means, what you will be paying for apon check out, we clearly advised the front reception that our only sundry would be $18.00 for parking.

The staff at the Chifley made us feel like second rate citizens.

Management do not even bother to respond to this justifying your rules, heartless humans are heartless humans at the end of the day.

When booking this apartment I had very mixed views, from reading other reviews, which made me wonder what it would be like.
But I was very pleasantly surprised. It was modern, clean and the service was great. It was nothing like the previous reviews I read. The staff also were very accommodating. The apartment was very spacious.
Certainly recommend to anyone going to Newcastle.

Room Tip: We had a 2 bed apartment, which had views of the ships coming and going. The balcony was just so nic...

Would not stay. New & clean but I am trying to sleep. Noisy pub right outside my window. Music. Crowd noise. DJ on microphone and I am on level 7. Very unhappy. Noise proof windows if you knew what the neighbours were like.
