We had a weekend in Newcastle and were quite pleased with what Ibis provided us for A$111/night (Queen Room).
The Queen Room definitely wasn’t among the biggest ones out there, but we actually found that it created a nice sense of intimacy. Closet isn’t all that big either but big enough for a short stay.
Was quite comfy and very clean sheets. Extra blanket and pillow in the closet.
Our room was facing the main street but you could hardly hear anything from the road – unless you choose to open the window. We didn’t really hear the lift or our neighbours, either, being right next to the lift and emergency exit. I don’t think anyone is staying here for good views but the tree outside the window actually works well blocking any possible peekers outside.
Was also small of size but usable, good shower but no bath. It was rather clean and without smell. It was good enough for us but I’m guessing it may bring some difficulty if you’re staying with little children.
WHAT ELSE IS IN THE ROOM?
Iron, tea and coffee facilities, a small fridge, a closet, some coat hangers, air-con, a phone, extra pillow and blanket, notepad, alarm (which has an ipod/iphone docking station), bins.
Yes as seen in many reviews the team were very efficient, friendly and professional.
Two-min walk from Wickham Station and a little stroll to the city. About 25min walk to the beach or 4min on the train. Pizza Hut, KFC right next door and places to eat around the hotel. Shopping Centre 5 or 6 min walk away.
ANY HEADS-UPS BEFORE MAKING MY FINAL DECISION?
Well I would recommend this hotel if you’re going there for a short stay (like we did) and aren’t aiming for luxury, grand conditions. We honestly found nothing about this hotel that was too frustrating, and I do believe the promise of “solving your problem within 15min” would really help a lot if you do find things intolerable.
Sorry about the photo quality – taken by a mobile phone. Room light is actually pleasant except the bedside ones were a bit too bright. Bathroom well lighted.
