I didn't expect to be in Newcastle and booked in at the Ibis on Hunter St for 3 nights. I was pleasantly surprised with the hotel, the staff and the surroundings.

Check-in was easy and the staff were very friendly and able to show some nearby restaurants to my taste as well as recommend some local attractions and point them out on a map. The room itself was small and compact, but well laid out with a funny looking capsule bathroom. To be honest it made me feel a little seasick inside the bathroom but it was well organised and helped get the most out of the space available.

The bar has a happy hour (or two) at 5pm which is good, and the food is also of good quality. I had breakfast most mornings. Monday morning was made to order while Tuesday and Wednesday were small buffet style.

Overall I had a better than expected stay.

Room Tip: The room I had gave me a view over the harbour - if you moved around a bit. I was on the top floor...

I stayed at the Ibis Newcastle for one night, the room was clean with the normal amenities. The bed and bedding were comfortable, clean and crisp.

Great value for money and the staff were very friendly, I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone.

Great location as in the heart of Newcastle. Room was clean, very compact.

On a main road so quite noisy at night if your a light sleeper, plus very close to a club so very noisy at kick out time in the early hours.

Good value for money as cheaper than some of the hostels around the area :) would recommend if your looking for somewhere with no frills and a good location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back, not on the main road.

I stayed here for two nights when I was visiting on a sailing ship and needed some better sleep compared to the hammocks on board! The Ibis fit the bill, but it wasn't much more than a place to sleep. I found the price on Saturday night a bit high but I guess there is demand in Newcastle then. The location is not superb as there's not much going on at that part of Hunter St, but it was close to the train station which I used to get to the CBD.
