Spent the weekend at the Crown. It is very central ideal located within walking distance to the foreshore and the top of town.
We booked a balcony suite with separate lounge.
The room had a lovely view of the harbour and surrounds. The room itself was spacious and comfortable. Nice soft pillows and not too soft mattress.
The staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was delicious although I did have to wait 20 minutes for my eggs to be cooked and there was no bake beans!. There was a good variation of bacon and plenty of fruit. The do it yourself juicer was a nice touch.
Overall a lovely stay.

Thank you for your review LeonSokulsky,

It's great to hear that you spent the weekend here, all the better to enjoy Newcastle! Thank you for your lovely comments regarding the space in the room and comfort of the bed and furnishings.

I apologise that the service for breakfast was not as fast as our usual service - I am glad that despite this delay, you enjoyed your stay.

The hotel is in a good spot on the water, lots of things to see, good amount of restaurants all within walking distance. I think the price of this hotel is high for what you get, but I can't complain when my company is paying for it. Free wifi when you sign up for the IHG rewards card. Nice large rooms with a seperate bedroom with doors you can close off from the TV room/kitchen. The breakfast in the restaurant offers a fairly nice spread, but is a bit pricey (but All hotels in Australia seem to have very pricey breakfasts).

Room Tip: Water side rooms have the best views. Rooms on the short leg of the "L" (hotel is an L sha...

Zachulaa, thank you for your review and savvy room tip - the Harbourview suites certainly have a nicer outlook and are more peaceful.

Our rates do vary nightly, and our best deals are on the weekend - Friday and Saturday nights, and the Weekend Special includes the buffet breakfast! So the good news is that if you ever come for a weekend away, you can get a special rate! It is always cheaper if you are happy to pre-pay, which is also something to keep in mind for next time.

We stayed for a night on our way north and wished that we'd been able to stay longer. Although we booked a city side room, we were allocated a room overlooking the courtyard with a partial water view. This was a real bonus as we love looking out over the water. Check in was smooth and as it was our anniversary we were given vouchers for a drink at the bar which we enjoyed after dinner.

The weather was stunning on the day we arrived so we went for a long walk along the waterfront and into the city. Next door to the hotel are a number of restaurants and bars with interesting sounding menus. We decided in the end to have dinner in the hotel and didn't regret it. My husband had a steak which he said was the best steak he's had in ages and I had a balmain bug pasta dish with chilli and lemon. Absolutely delicious. We had breakfast the following morning. The selection of food was very good and eggs were cooked to order. Although busy, service was friendly and efficient.

Our room was spacious and we liked that there was a sitting room as well as a bedroom with a small kitchenette. There was a tv both in the bedroom and sitting room. The bathroom was roomy and everything was very clean.

The day we left, there was torrential rain and as there is no shelter out the front of the hotel, the concierge staff were protecting guests from the rain with hotel unbrellas which was appreciated.

Overall a very enjoyable stay.

I've stayed at this hotel many times, with my most recent stay of 6 weeks being the longest. During all my stays, I'm not sure I've ever encountered a rude/unpleasant member of staff. They go out of their way to help you...unfortunately they can't do much about the hotel itself. The main thing this hotel has going for it, is the wow factor of being right on the water. I do love the views from the rooms that are on the water side, and sitting in the lounge area by the restaurant. The rooms themselves, whilst large and very clean, are beyond drab. White, grey, tan without an ounce of character or personal touch. A friend entered the room for the first time and summed it up "I've never stayed at a Crowne before but I thought they were supposed to be nice?" It has the basics you need but the details are lacking. I'm 5'10" and the shower head comes to my chin, forcing me to duck when washing my hair. There is free WiFi if you are an IHG member, but the quality is terrible. There are two flat screen TVs, but they are so old with poor quality, signal resolution and remotes that it's not worth watching. The channel selection is poor, definitely not a hotel catering to intl business. There is a couch which is uncomfortable. There is no reasonable parking: valet and park yourself are the same price and its a far walk. Not much they can do due to the location but it is very expensive. The rooms are certainly fine if you are only staying a few days..

Room Tip: Water view and not on the ground floor is best. Do NOT stay in 100 - 108 which are right above the...

Thank you for your review - as a loyal return guest your feedback is of the utmost importance to us.

For this reason, it is even better to hear that you enjoyed your stay and in particular the staff. You made the right decision choosing the pre-paid option, it certainly makes a difference to the room rate!

We look forward to welcoming you in the future (hopefully sooner rather than later)

Stayed three nights in a harbour view room. Room was very spacious with separate living room and bedroom. Bathroom was of good size with shower over the bath. There were 2 TV,s and large couch. Was on floor 1 but still had a great view over the harbor. Large and comfortable bar on lobby level. I only used the restaurant for dinner each night. The meals were of a very high standard and reasonably priced. I found all of the staff to be most friendly and efficient. Accommodation is not cheap but reasonable for what you get.

We stayed here for 5 nights over Easter in 3 rooms on the 4th floor. The rooms were generous, well maintained and 2 rooms had small balconies which was a great way to watch the harbour action go by.

Dinner at the restaurant was well above what we expected, delicious food and great service. Breakfast buffet was also well done - the kids pricing was a bargain at $12, the adults less so at $33.

2 major peeves, internet connection whilst complimentary was very patchy in terms of performance and constantly dropping out with horribly unfriendly reconnection process. Second peeve was the $29 parking fee on top of the already overpriced room rates that compared to 5 star capital city hotels.

Sydneyite89, thank you for your review and feedback - it is important to us to identify the aspects of the hotel that guests love, as well as the areas to improve.

We are glad that you enjoyed our Seasalt restaurant for both lunch and dinner - a new 'Winter' seasonal menu is being released this week so if you stay over the next few months you can sample our new menu items!

I can understand your frustration in regards to internet issues - we find that different devices have different wireless 'strengths' and some can drop out. Next stay, if you connect using the ethernet cable in the room this will ensure your device has the highest connection strength.

For you next stay, please contact our in-house reservations directly on 49075062 to ensure the best room rate - there are great deals if you are happy to pre pay. Alternatively, a different room type may be suitable, as the King Spa suites from your last stay are our best (and highly priced) room type.
