Travelodge Hotel Newcastle
Ranked #13 of 23 Hotels in Newcastle
Reviewed 12 December 2011

Stayed at Travelodge as part of a concert package this week. To be fair, package represented good value for money as the tickets for Cold Chisel were $99 each. Package had 2 tickets, accomodation, transfers to and from concert and breakfast for $375. Rooms were standard, with 2 standard twin single beds, shower pressure was basically non existent and took 5 minutes just to get somewhere near ok temperature - forget the pressure - a major dislike for me. Rooms were stuffy, despite windows which we could open. Mini bar prices ridiculous which is quite normal for hotels. Requested quiet room which we got on top floor. Advised at check in that parking would be an additional $15. Breakfast was very very average, and that is being kind. Overall service from staff was standard. In summary, would not book in there again as I would hope that it ranks lowly in comparison to other places. Would be worth paying the extra $$$ to stay there.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor at level 6, away from main road.

My experience wasn't as terrible as some of these other reviews, but isn't a hotel I would recommend.
The room itself was large but very outdated with faded furniture and a very old bathroom, it just needs a really good refurb. The bed itself was OK and I slept fine but everything felt old and dusty. The breakfast was not too bad and staff were polite.
The location was OK with Mcdonalds across the road as well as a mall and supermarket.
Overall it was just OK. It wasn't disgusting but left me underwhelmed.

There is a very loud night club across the road, you get charged for parking in the open air, there is no tea available for breakfast and the language from within the rooms can be heard throughout the hotle.

Room Tip: Just dont go here

This was one of the last few options we had, so we decided to stay here.

It's close to the shops and a McDonald's across the road, and is relatively - and I stress relatively - clean. Generous parking. The receptionist was pleasant.

Noise was a minor issue, but on the plus side, it's relatively close to a pizza place - good for late night snacking!

Overall I would say it's good for a night's stay, but no more - there are better options in Newcastle that are closer to the city.

How anyone can possibly have anything even remotely postive or complimentary to say about this "hotel" and I use the term generously... is simply astounding.
The staff are certainly pleasant but the hotel itself is simply disgusting... from the rank stench of tobacco smell in the lift lobby on my way to my room to the filth of a bathroom no cleaner than the local public toilet... it's an abject disgrace. Indicative of the disdain this hotel has for it's customers ... I took the time to complete a feedback form, identified the issues, discussed them with the person on the front desk at check out in detail and yet a month later have heard NOTHING from anyone at the Travelodge... not surprising but consitent with the appalling standard (or lack thereof) of this establishment.. Being a GOLD NRMA member and frequent (not since of course) Travelodge user made no difference... Hopefully the general manager has been sacked by now... they occupy the title under false pretences....

Room Tip: Find somewhere else to stay!

I am a regular weekday user of the Travelodge and find that the staff are very welcoming and most careful to ensure that my stays are trouble free. Nothing is a problem and maintenance and glitches are all fixed quickly and cheerfully. the location is excellent with many shops nearby, there is plenty of parking and good food in the hotel. It is a genuine hotel with well intentioned staff and delivers value. i strongly recommend it.

Room Tip: Just ask the staff for rooms on the Western side and on the top two floors

I did the wotif.com mystery room and got the travelodge in Newcastle, of course jumped on trip advisor right away and got blown away by the bad reviews, so I didn't hold any hope for this place.

We arrived on Saturday at 1.00pm, they checked us in, even though check in was at 2.00pm and that was with a crowded reception, I asked a few questions to get me familiar with the local area, the Receptionist on Saturday afternoon not only was helpful but pointed out Markettown across the road to pick up some snacks for tots etc. 2 Thumbs up right there for thinking about a parent travelling with a child and that their mini bar didn't cater for kids!!!

As per any hotel you stay at the in-house movies are way over priced compared to Foxtel movies which are only $5.00 a throw compared to $15.00 and the room service menu was good, again exceptional work done by the kitchen staff at Sienna's cooking the meal specifically for a toddler, again another 2 thumbs up!!!! Menu prices could be lower, mini bar prices could be lower with alot more choice. Hopefully with what I left behind in the room the room cleaners might get the hint lol.

Sunday was a beautiful day, we headed out all day and spent it on the beach and round the Wharf and Honeysuckle Precinct, since Sienna's isn't open Sunday's they do have a minimal snack menu, but not one suitable for children, but again all I had to do was ask the reception staff and they were all over it with directions and how long it would take to walk, so we got a nice chinese meal so tot's could have vege's and rice as a stable meal and I had a yummy mixed box to go.

The room was huge, loads of room for tot's to play, great to have a bath in the bathroom.

The only thing that I would consider advising the Manager is that the in-house cleaners need to learn how to clean, our carpet in our room was filthy and I cleaned the window cills with disinfectant wipes so tot's could touch it and the bathrooms floors need to glisten now be dewy...but thats it.

The bed was comfy, the room was great, I had a view, not only of the carpark but of the tankers rolling in via the canel, watched 2 great sunsets from my room and saw the mountains.

So all I can say give it a chance, it is actually a really well located place especially if you like to walk everywhere.
