Newcastle Beach Hotel
Ranked #19 of 24 Hotels in Newcastle
Reviewed 9 December 2012

I have stayed here a few times in the past few years, most recently this month. This is the most affordable hotel in the area; it is clean and unpretentious and who cares about a slightly tired decor when it is a 5-minute walk in one direction to lovely Nobby's Beach and literally just around the corner in the other direction to the Ocean Baths. We have always found the staff friendly and helpful.
A very minor quibble was that neither the restaurant nor room service - both clearly advertised in their in-house literature - was available. We had also hoped to have breakfast at the hotel as we had an early departure but again, the advertised breakfast in room option was unavailable and, despite being assured that a buffet breakfast would be available from 7:00 a.m., the breakfast room was still in darkness at 7:15. But maybe we just struck a bit of a chaotic weekend.
Overall, though, anyone who seriously thinks they are not getting value for money, given the great location, is just being ridiculous.

I was in Newcastle on business for 4 days. I stayed in a Standard room on the 2nd floor. It was perfectly clean. The bed was comfortable and the airconditioner worked well and I found the place perfectly acceptable for $145 a night.

Way overpriced. over $200 for the night including parking and a rotten breakfast. Great views, Ocean breezes but make sure you have all the windows wide open because the inside of the building smells bad. Old 1970's decor. Car Park is a joke. Some of the staff like the old grumpy man are in the wrong business also. As others have noted, the elevator looks like a death trap. I used the stairs. There are many other places in the West End that are much better. Although they are not right on the beach I think i will stay down that end from now on.

We stayed at this hotel as everything in Newcastle seemed quite expensive, however check in was not welcoming and the check out from a grumpy old man wasn't the best way to end a stay either!

Wasn't asked how we found our stay etc and cannot believe they have the nerve to charge $15 per night extra for parking on top of an over priced room! Yes the cost was $119 through wotif, but given the age of the room and the brick wall as a view this room should be priced at around no more than $90 per night!

Room itself was clean and tidy but the lift we used to get up onto our floor was rediculas, as the door weighed a tonne and the door slid back on its own so was quite a challenge to hold bags and door at the same time!

Think employee/owners need to attend a basics in customer service skills course or sell up and let someone that actually cares and has passion for the service industry to run the place!

Will never stay again and would not recommend this to anyone else. Only recommendation would be to spend an extra $10 or $20 and stay at the Clarendon Hotel or a like. Very disappointing stay and experience!

considering I paid extra to get the standard room instead of the "older style room" I was disappointed with the quality of the room. Room was very tired and the bathroom was like something out of a caravan.
I'm glad was only 1 night and for work not pleasure. Wouldn't go back.
paid $159 which I don't think is that cheap.
