stayed at the Novocastrian overnight in late April. Room was excellent, clean and well positioned. A quiet night , we were the only clients there. However the staff went out of their way to make our stay pleasant and comfortable.
Meals were good.

Room Tip: top floor overlooking beach and baths

Location good but it's quiet for a reason. Superior room is airy with balcony door open which is good but a trip hazard walking out to balcony. View of harbour lovely but west facing means hot in the afternoon. Air conditioner worked but after looking at it outside I wondered how. Bed firm but ok room furniture either needs replacing or cleaning. Adequate size room however bathroom is from the 50's laminate walls toilet so close to the wall no space to sit and shower rose so low you have to duck to wash your hair. The lift requires YOU to open and close the door have not seen that for decades some call it quaint but it's difficult to manoeuvre luggage and computer and open and slide lift door at the same . Check in was quick however staff were abrupt verging on indifferent. Not enough positives to stay here again.

My husband and I just got back from a lovely weekend away together. We stayed at the Novocastrian, and yes there are a few older style things about the place, however we found it rather charming, an excellent location and within walking distance to everything. We sat out on the veranda eating cheese and crackers with a bottle of wine, soaking in the sun and the cool ocean breeze. It was lovely. I would recommend for anyone who just wants to relax and have a stress free time out.

Had third floor end room (superior) with balcony view of river traffic. Being western side, room heated up in afternoon. Sliding door gave fresh air. Aircon worked. Bed was large and comfortable. Bar fridge was roomy, contents reasonably priced. Room had a two seater lounge, small table and chairs, TV, usual tea/coffee things. Not cramped. Clean, respectable, serviced daily. Lift worked OK ... we encountered similar in a Brussels hotel - enjoy the experience. All corridors are stuffy. Budget floor ceiling seemed low/oppressive. Reception was helpful/ informative. The garaging times did not suit our friends who needed an early departure, h’ever (pay-for) street parking o/side proved safe. Dining room gave us a good steak but area appears aimed towards functions. Artwork there is engaging. Other eating close by. The N/c has its own vibe, and for our travel agenda, with no car, it was just right – so close to rock pool, beaches, fort, city, buses - plus a touch of retro. Considering the season and location, the price of superior room was fair.

Room Tip: Get river or ocean view superior room for comfort. Friends did not enjoy Budget room.

I called into the motel and asked to view the room , the lady in reception basically told me to get lost , I have never in my life been treated in such a manner when looking for accomadation . Having worked in the hospitality sector myself I would expect to be looking for another job if I treated prospective customers in such a way .

When our usual accommodation choices were unavailable we booked at The Novacastrian. Our last stay here was 15 years ago and we thought it must have improved since. Renovations, upgrades maybe???

Nope!!

As bad as it's ever been!!!

Bathroom straight out of the 50s, as were the beds. A view of a few scaffolding and pallets sitting on an awning, faulty power points and hair dryer we weren't game to touch.

Cheap?? Yes

Good value?? No

Cry or laugh??

Laughing is less stressful.

Stay away, there are better options.

It's a prime location- close to the beach and very central! I enjoyed my overnight stay at the Novocastrian. I had one of the standard rooms with 'ocean glimpses' from my little balcony. The room was clean and the staff were obliguing.
