We visited the Hunter Valley Garden (HVG) and the Snow Time event it is holding during winter school holidays. We visited from Sydney.
Snow Time is just an ice skating type activity that comes to shopping malls sometimes but in a bit bigger scale. It includes a very short Toboggan ride, large ice skating rink (without any attendants inside!), snow play and snow ball fighting areas. Also included are a dog display, big jumping castle and face painting (long queue for face painting as only one painter was there). Dog display demonstrated a cart pulled by dogs on scheduled time which was interesting. We saw only three ice sculptures which already have melted!
If you are visiting the HVG anyway it is worth to pay the extra these days to see the Snow Time too. Otherwise it’s not worth!
HVG itself is beautiful and well maintained. As this is the winter not much leafy or flowers but many things to see. Plan your walk carefully using a map (ask for one when buying your tickets) as it is a large area and easy to miss things, we missed half of . First see HVG and then go to Snow Time if kids allow. Garden close at 5 pm but Snow Time runs till 9 pm.
Many special food stalls close to Snow Time area sells sandwiches, Thai, snacks, coffee and general sweet stuff for kids. Main café (renamed Snow Time Café these days) is at the entrance and prices are reasonable. Souvenir shop sells general garden decoration stuff not anything unique to HVG.
Parking is free and wasn't a problem as extra parking is provided on the Oval.
