“Far too slow bad service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2014

Went here for lunch during a nice day at the Gardens. Their famous 'Plougman's Lunch' sounded like it was worth a try. Took a little while to get a menu, and then an indeterminable time to get someone to take our order. Even though there was several staff hanging around, doing this and that, only one person was allowed to take the orders. How stupid is that? Many other tables could be seen complaining as well. When the food finally arrived, it was a large portion and OK, but not worth that long to wait :-(

“Below average, slow and expensive”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2014

Visited Taste of the Country for a supposedly "famous" ploughman's lunch. Waited 30 minutes for someone to take our order. Waited another 30 minutes for the drinks to be served, then at least 40 minutes for the supposed "famous" ploughman's to be delivered. Bread was nice but processed ham, corned beef, enough cheese to feed a table of 10 (including a processed three layered cheese from a commercial supermarket) does not a ploughman's make. When you are surrounded in the Hunter Valley by wonderful local food producers, to serve such food is disappointing and an insult to the local producers. We will not be returning to this "Taste of the Country" as it is not.

Waited 20 minutes to order. Another 50 minutes to get our lunch wraps. Under staffed. Slow slow slow.

“Lovely lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 January 2014 via mobile

We stopped in for lunch on our first day in the Hunter Valley and ordered the ploughman's platter (my partner is a big eater, I'm the opposite). Between us, we ALMOST finished it - piles of salad, ham, a delicious corned beef, three huge chunks of cheese and antipasto bits. It was the perfect introduction to the Hunter, and we will definitely be back again for it!
