The room we stayed in was large, well-resourced and the bed was very comfortable. I wish there was a way that when guests in adjoining rooms leave at 6.00am that room doors could close without making slamming vibrations coming through the adjoining walls.
The Restaurant and adjoining full size pool table were excellent.
It’s a pity the package deal was not received on arrival, it would have been great to enjoy its contents, and take up the visit the Winery tour offer, but we had to asks for it on our departure.
The restaurant and breakfast staff gave excellent service during our stay, pity about reception not organising the delivery of the hamper.

Room Tip: Hint:- forget about the package deals.

I've stayed here a number of times on business. It's a fair drive from the New England Highway, and the towns and business opportunities there, but that's a huge plus. The location is lovely and the early mornings and sunset views in the evenings are very peaceful, as long as there's not a party, wedding, or other function occurring.

The rooms are large and 'charming', and each room in which I've stayed has a different layout and feel to it. Most of the staff are very friendly and the rooms are kept nice and clean. The beds are very comfortable -- the only negative on the sleep quality rating is that it can be a bit noisy sometimes, depending on what else is going on in the hotel.

There's a large indoor pool and I believe there's a gym (and maybe a spa), although I've only used the pool. The grounds are very pretty and on a quiet night it's lovely to sit outdoors and just listen.

Definitely one of the better places I've stayed in the Hunter Valley, and much better value than the highway motels in the larger towns, yet close enough to Cessnock to allow one to go shopping or to satisfy fast food cravings. The Sebel is usually my first choice in the Valley.

Room Tip: The manor house tends to have the quietest rooms, while those in the main building tend to be the lo...

Despite the beautiful location, the scenery and the gardens, this hotel was very disappointing and it all comes down to the management and staff. There is a general feeling that the customer is an inconvenience, getting in the way of the staff being able to get on with their work; it seemed the staff would rather busy themselves with admin duties; in the restaurant it was more important to titivate the plates and cutlery on vacant tables than attend to the diners and the most important aspect of the bar waiter/waitress' role is to 'faff' about with the computer to ensure the docket is produced as opposed to pouring a decent quality drink. My main course lacked the primary ingredient, the chef had forgotten it (a ploughman's with no cheese). Oh and by the way, there is something of a 'Ready, Steady, Cook' approach to dining as food is available until such time the chef 'decides its time to stop cooking' and this can change from one evening to the next (thank goodness he's not an airline pilot)! Bar staff are inexperienced both from a customer service perspective and how to pour and serve a decent drink however, they will be sure to get your signature on the docket for billing. It doesn't matter how you ask for your drink to be served, you'll get it how they want to do it and you would be wasting your time asking for any alcohol because they will dilute it with such force you will have to step back from the bar area for fear of being drenched with soda. This whole experience is conducted with no eye contact being made with you at all - amazing! Should the reception staff expressly advise you that you are in a quiet room and the wedding reception 'party' guests are 'on the other side of the hotel to ensure you have peaceful night', don't be fooled! If you want to use the indoor pool, hope you like it unheated. All in all very poor customer service, lacking etiquette and polish; a real 'slap dash' approach to the customer experience, no atmosphere and a claustrophobic feeling to the whole place despite the beautiful surroundings. You can get better value for your money than this!

There are two possibilities here. If you have the average taste of an average Australian, you may be 'charmed' by the refined decor and the rose gardens. If not, you may be put off by the prissy, old fashioned vibe, which is rather like a three-dimensional Cluedo board brought to life (complete with player-piano rolls). At its standard prices, this is one for the true believers.

Only stayed 1 night but I wish it had been more! Had a lovely room with a huge bathroom, fab views. The pool and jacuzzi were lovely and the breakfast was tasty.

As I stayed mid week I felt the rate was excellent value, the property was still very busy though.

The bed was very comfy and I had a great nights sleep, would definitely stay here again.

We obtained a good deal from a last minute website, half the rack rate price, and were very happy with our stay. Not sure I would want to pay full price however. The room was very well appointed and spacious, and I always appreciate a lounge chair to relax into whilst looking down the front lawn to the dam. The continental breakfast was more than adequate. But there seemed to be something a bit twee about the place that I couldn't quite put my finger on - was it the faux English rose garden or the not quite convincing colonial architecture? Also didn't like the fact that you had to swipe to get into the pool, couldn't see the need for it considering how isolated the place is. Still, if you can get a good deal, it's a very pleasant, quiet place to relax for a few days.

Room Tip: Don't pay rack rate, you can do much better

This place has obviously been let run down by Mirvac and is seriously understaffed with inexperienced juniors and oversighted by a poor management team that just does not care.
Everything is done on the cheap. Our 'free upgrade' room (although paid for 6 months in advance) was only given to us niggardly by a resentful manager. Why advertise a free upgrade???? The 'free upgrade' room absolutely stunk from something that had rotted and leaked out of the fridge. Major battle to have us moved to a clean room ( same standard) and only after they could not find any air freshner in three different storerooms. Not too much to ask for a clean room for three nights paid for six months in advance. Bumped into a guest that was given our old room and he complained about the smell and was told to like it or lump it as hotel was full. Disgraceful to give someone that room when management knew of the problems. As a concert was on nearby the carpark was inundated with visitors for the shuttle bus therefore no place for guests to park their cars. Fridge in the new room packed it in first day and no replacement was available therefore no cold drinks. Balconies were unswept and dusty with cobwebs, bird droppings littered the railings. Room service trays and empty bottles were left outside doors for two days (kid you not) but staff were successfully able to high jump them without disturbing the pile. Bar virtually unattended and the young kids had no idea what some drinks were or how to mix them- although knew how to charge at premium prices. Same vein no empty glasses or bottles were ever removed from the tables in the lounge unless you did them yourself. A cheese platter mysteriously appeared on our bill with a completely different signature although this was withdrawn. Free Tip to Management and staff - Check room number and get a signature! The hostess at breakfast was rude (not to us) to a group of elderly people who did not understand protocol for a table. Gardens were half completed and hedges half trimmed- quite hilarious actually. No romantic wedding photos amongst the vines or the pond as the vines had withered and the pond was stagnant.
Mediocre at best with a surly management team that does not care.

Room Tip: Seems pointless when you can pay 6 months in adnace and end up with a putrid room.
