“Charming and picturesque”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014

I stayed here for my one year anniversary and I'm so glad I did! All staff were warm and attentive. The rooms were of course clean and well furnished. Beautiful balcony that looks out to the range and grassy hills.
The infuzion restaurant served up some really delicious food too! Triple cheese souffle and vegetable patch were perfect for being in the hunter valley.
I'm a bit of a light sleeper so I'll make a tiny mention of the mini fridge under the tv making its normal light buzz noise. But otherwise, bed was comfy and the bathroom was perfect.
It was winter so the plants should all be out of bloom but was pleasantly surprised to see many roses still in bloom (still plenty not in bloom). The fireplace in the restaurant and common lounge area makes for an awesome winter getaway.
Sitting on the balcony watching the sun go down over the mountains and hills was serene and peaceful. Really enjoyed my stay!

Sebel Kirkton Park offers a grand Aussie manor experience, complete with beautifully landscaped gardens and the great Aussie outdoors. We stayed in mid autumn (late March) and the hotel was ideally located to use as a base while hitting the Hunter Valley wine trail.

The staff we encountered were warm, friendly and very helpful, with reception upgrading us to their best suite, they said, for my man’s birthday during our two night stay. Thank you, again!

At one breakfast a server obliged in finding me gluten free bread and even asked if it needed toasting separately…Full marks for this, as many top hotels – local and overseas – still don’t understand how to manage guests with food restrictions.

Our suite was clean and functional, yet very tired and drab, which was a big disappointment. It was also not the kind of room for chillaxing, with its two small bucket chairs. What’s more, it was awkward eating and drinking sitting on the bed.

Of course, the hotel does offer a lounge – boasting chesterfields and a fireplace – but we wanted to enjoy our self-made cheese plate together and it was a little cold to eat on our balcony. Also, the obliging staff gave us plates, glasses etc so we could indulge.

Despite its great location, amiable staff and the great Aussie outdoors - including more rose bushes than you can poke a stick at - we wouldn’t stay at Sebel Kirkton Park again…The suite just wasn’t the experience were seeking; if they renovate, we’ll reconsider.

Room Tip: Always check if there's a wedding/event on and make sure that you're not close to the venue...

I have no idea what these other reviewers are complaining about. We stayed last Thursday night
This is a great 4* hotel located in one of the most beautiful settings in the Hunter.
Back for a second time since our wedding here 4 years ago we walked into a warm and comfy room.
I called the night prior and spoke to a lovely man at the front desk, explained we were travelling with a baby and requested a cot. I also asked if we could be accommodated in a room with a larger bed.
Nothing was too much trouble, he looked at the room allocations and not only allocated us a room with a larger bed but a better view, something i know he did not have to do.

Dinner was lovely, the waitress AMAZING, our daughter was very unsettled and i was trying to get her to sleep. They held of dinner for as long as possible and when ready the waitress offered to look after her. She took my daughter around the restaurant (lucky we were the only ones in there).

This again is service that goes above and beyond, something that is hard to find now days.

Check out, great! nothing to pay but my breakfast bill, no charge for the crib (something some hotels charge $30-40). We pre booked the Groupon $150.00 deal inc hamper, amazing value as the hamper was FULL of goodies.

We will be back for the Christmas light in the HV Gardens.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view

We had a one night stay at this hotel for a friends birthday. We booked over the phone and were told by the man on reception that they don't normally do one night rates but he would just check if he could do it for us. He got back to us after a couple of minutes and informed us that he could do it for a rate of $201 do we were happy with that and booked. Upon checkout the next morning we were charged $331! My husband tried to explain to the lady on reception that we were quoted a different price but she was very rude and wouldn't listen to him. They took the money straight from the credit card! Very unethical!

Dear Valued Guest,

I am sorry that your experience of Sebel Kirkton Park was not a pleasant one. This is definitely not the level of service that we want for our guests. At the Sebel Kirkton Park we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer and on this occasion we have clearly fallen short. I am unsure as to what caused the room rate to change for your reservation. I would like to discuss your experience further. Please feel free to contact me on 02 4998 7775 or via email on H8797-fo@accor.com

Kindest regards

We were to stay at Kirkton Park this weekend. We showed up to check-in and the staff member (supervisor on her name tag) gave me a map for room No.5, but no directions. We walked in almost a 360 degree direction until we found the room at the end of a darkened corridor. The room had the bathroom as the first thing we saw when we opened the door, with the bedroom adjacent, both very small. It had a musty, mouldy smell, and we felt like we were in a dungeon. We had small windows with a view of the carpark.
The room booked was a heritage room, which to my understanding after looking at their website, was the middle quality level with a garden view and verandah. We returned to reception to tell them this was not a room to our liking and could we see another room. I saw the look on the same staff members face when we approached her, and the only way I can describe the look on her face was that of a stubborn person with a look waiting to have an argument with wide eyes and turned up lip.She told us that on the website we booked on, they are always allocated the lowest level of rooms. She also said they have no rooms at all available as they are all full. When we first arrived we walked around the gardens, past room windows and doors, on the way to reception and saw a considerable number of rooms that were empty. We asked for our money back, and she (with an incredulous tone) said, you can't just get your money back just because you have a look at the room and don't like it. No apology or flexibility at all. Needless to say we decided to stay somewhere else that night. Another thing, one of the staff walked past us when we approached the entrance, walked through the entrance a couple of metres in front of us, and let the door go, so it closed right in our faces. A further distance than this behind me was a man heading to the door, and I held it open for him, which I did not think was a major hassle, or a sign of weakness on my part. Gave us a feeling that we are just a walking credit card, not a customer to be treated well.
