“TERRIBLE, worst place i've stayed”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

Well where do I start. First of all we paid an absurd price for an over priced what claims to be 4 star accommodation. I don't mind paying, If I get what I pay for. We travel away a lot for both business and pleasure and enjoy staying at nice hotels. This place is very deceiving, looks fabulous on the net, yet when you get there and open your room door, you are let down immensely. If it wasn't for our amazing experience for dinner that night (at another vineyard), our whole trip would of been a massive let down. So much for a nice weekend away without our son to end up at a disgusting place like the Sebel. We were told at reception we received an upgrade! we were astounded when we got to our room as it was a disgrace. Aircon was broken and they substituted it with an old oil heater, bed side lamps didn't work, even the bedside clock not only didn't work but couldn't because the plug could fit into the power point. Bed was uncomfortable, pillows were average, styling was atrocious, bathroom was made for one. I would have to say it is amongst one of the worst places I've stayed.
Even when I rang reception they made up excuses for everything, and didn't even offer an upgrade.
Breakfast was terrible. all round bad experience. And don't worry, with the company we run, we will ensure we tell everyone about it. I am most of all annoyed that I was deceived into purchasing an overpriced one night stay in a terrible place all because the website made it look wonderful.

Room Tip: Well we apparently received an upgrade, and it was terrible. Will definitely not stay there again, a...

Dear Valued Guest

I am sorry that your experience of Sebel Kirkton Park was not a pleasant one. This is definitely not the level of service that we want for our guests. At the Sebel Kirkton Park we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer and on this occasion we have clearly fallen short. I would like to discuss your stay further. Just returned from a night at the Sebel. Greeted by friendly staff who upgraded us when I produced my Accor card.. Lovely room, accessing the verandah overlooking the manicured grounds and surrounding mountains. Bathroom was clean and spacious with separate bath and shower. The rooms are mainly situated in blocks of accommodation situated on the property. The pool block is situated by itself with a large spa. The day we were there, there was a shortage of towels, but this was promptly attended to, In the main block is the reception area, lounge with open fire and chesterfield lounges and tables that I noticed people playing games at. There is also a dining room with open fire, and a conservatory where breakfast is served. Also in this area is a small billard room. We chose to order dinner from the bar food menu (as we had been out to lunch) and eat in the lounge. We did not eat in the dining room during our stay or have breakfast, but we did have a peak at the breakfast buffet selection and it did look very good. It is the sort of place we would have been happy spending the day at the resort, enjoying the facilities, and wandering the lovely grounds or sitting on the balcony reading a book.

Had a very pleasant two days enjoyng Hunter Valley wines and accomodation at the Sebel. We had a deluxe queen room which was very comfortable and clean with great views and a balcony with a table & chairs to enjoy a bottle of something nice in the afternoon. The room had a couple of minor maintenance issues which we reported and they were fixed immediately. We had a meal at the Infuzion restaurant which was excellent, added to by the abience of an open fire on a cold evening. Breakfast was included with our accomodation package and was a substantial hot & cold buffet style with the addition of a pancake machine which was being used extensively by all the kids having breakfast which made it a rather long wait for fresh pancakes, but they were very nice when we eventually got some.

I stayed here for my one year anniversary and I'm so glad I did! All staff were warm and attentive. The rooms were of course clean and well furnished. Beautiful balcony that looks out to the range and grassy hills.
The infuzion restaurant served up some really delicious food too! Triple cheese souffle and vegetable patch were perfect for being in the hunter valley.
I'm a bit of a light sleeper so I'll make a tiny mention of the mini fridge under the tv making its normal light buzz noise. But otherwise, bed was comfy and the bathroom was perfect.
It was winter so the plants should all be out of bloom but was pleasantly surprised to see many roses still in bloom (still plenty not in bloom). The fireplace in the restaurant and common lounge area makes for an awesome winter getaway.
Sitting on the balcony watching the sun go down over the mountains and hills was serene and peaceful. Really enjoyed my stay!

Sebel Kirkton Park offers a grand Aussie manor experience, complete with beautifully landscaped gardens and the great Aussie outdoors. We stayed in mid autumn (late March) and the hotel was ideally located to use as a base while hitting the Hunter Valley wine trail.

The staff we encountered were warm, friendly and very helpful, with reception upgrading us to their best suite, they said, for my man’s birthday during our two night stay. Thank you, again!

At one breakfast a server obliged in finding me gluten free bread and even asked if it needed toasting separately…Full marks for this, as many top hotels – local and overseas – still don’t understand how to manage guests with food restrictions.

Our suite was clean and functional, yet very tired and drab, which was a big disappointment. It was also not the kind of room for chillaxing, with its two small bucket chairs. What’s more, it was awkward eating and drinking sitting on the bed.

Of course, the hotel does offer a lounge – boasting chesterfields and a fireplace – but we wanted to enjoy our self-made cheese plate together and it was a little cold to eat on our balcony. Also, the obliging staff gave us plates, glasses etc so we could indulge.

Despite its great location, amiable staff and the great Aussie outdoors - including more rose bushes than you can poke a stick at - we wouldn’t stay at Sebel Kirkton Park again…The suite just wasn’t the experience were seeking; if they renovate, we’ll reconsider.

Room Tip: Always check if there's a wedding/event on and make sure that you're not close to the venue...
