I have attached my letter of thanks

Dear Hunter Resort,

I just wanted to thank you and the staff at the Hunter Resort for the care and attention that you gave to us when we ran our carers course for people with motor neurone disease last week on the 13th and 14th March.

Each person completed an evaluation of the two days and on the question about their satisfaction with the accommodation, venue and catering everyone gave a rating of 4 or 5 out of 5. Very high praise indeed.

The accommodation was very clean and spacious, the meals under the sails were lovely and the dinner BBQ was also a great hit. I particularly liked the morning and afternoon teas! The Vintage room also suited the dynamic of our group and was presented beautifully for us.

A special thanks to you Jan for making it run so smoothly. Could you please pass on our thanks to Chris, who was there whenever we asked for something, to Terry who made all of us laugh on the wine tour, to the head chef (and I apologise I have forgotten his name) and all the others who did their job without being intrusive. You are all very professional indeed. Of course Sally at heavenly hunter did a wonderful job of helping to pamper the people who need pampering the most!

Back in September last year we stayed here, and we stayed on a weekend when there were issues with the water filtration system, so the water in our bathroom was brown. We left a review on TripAdvisor, and Philip (the owner) commented and apologised, and offered us a free night's accommodation. We thought this was extremely generous of him, and we took him up on this offer last night.

Our stay this time was lovely. We were able to check in earlier than 2pm, and the rooms were nice and clean. The beds are extremely comfortable, and it's in a great location - it is less than 10 minutes to most places in the Hunter Valley, so it's a great place to stay.

Thank you again to Philip - it was an extremely generous offer, and we are very grateful!

Labelled a 4 star resort although maybe a 2.5/3 star being generous. This place was full of dis-organisation. We had a some activities added to our stay via the hotel and there was no direction on how or where to redeem these, when we tried to redeem the food for the children we were told they did not know about it.
The little cottages which are tired and dusty, these had a distinct smell upon arrival. The shower has 1/2 a screen so the water sprays all over the floor. We could not slide the door at the back patio as it was jammed on the tracks. We kept the door closed as there were masses of bugs
At night the room was full of bugs even though the door was shut, so make sure you bring your own mosquito and bug spray to spray out the room. There were dead cockroaches on the floor and the beds ended up covered in bugs after spraying the room. Reception closes early and the restaurant says 6pm till late, we arrived at 7:45pm to order food and were told that everything had been turned off. They did make us some food though. There is a restaurant and winery across the road although the cars travel at 100km and to cross the road it is at a crest, very dangerous. The staff were not happy to be in this place at all. Breakfast in the morning was the same, no smiling faces.
Overall I would not recommend this place or stay there again.

Room Tip: Don't stay there

Set next to the blue tongue brewery on Hermitage road, this is labelled a 4 star resort. It was quiet and clean but the mattress was tired and the accommodation is that which you would stay in in order to visit the Hunter valley, not lounge about in. Wooden cabins in a quiet spot probably built 20 years ago and not updated.

Breakfast was included and was average buffet fare. Dinner was included and I had a nice steak. We were there for a concert and that was the focus of the trip, don't pick this place if your focus is beautiful accommodation.

We stayed at the Hunter Valley Resort for one night only, on 1 March to attend a relative's wedding at the Hunter Valley Gardens approximately ten minutes down the road.

From beginning to end our stay was eventful. Firstly, we could not easily find the Hunter Valley Resort...We used GPS and drove up and down the road on which the "resort" is located. The sign at the front, we later discovered, was the "Hunter Resort" while we had expected the "Hunter Valley Resort". Reception is down a small dirt road.

Check in was fast, with the friendly, chatty receptionist handing us a whole A4 size page, full of instructions. Many were does and don'ts at the resort; some were advising us of free trips to wine country etc, and others were about the restaurant.

As global travellers, we had expected this "resort" to be a lot more luxurious. Instead, we found that it consisted of unattractive, natural wooden huts, all in a row. Inside, the rooms were spacious enough, clean but extremely basic, with a small TV, desk, and wardrobe. The beds, however, were very comfortable and the bathrooms were bright, cheery and looked newly renovated

As the restaurant at the "resort" was expensive and guests were advised to book a table in advance, we decided to eat out. On the way home, just after 10pm we had a most frustrating time getting back. On the way up around 5pm, road works were in process on one side of the road, allowing cars to pass on the other side.

However, that night, for whatever reason, the Council had, in its wisdom, decided to close off the entire road!! That left guests like us wondering how to return to our hotels up beyond the road works. As far as we knew, there was no other route to take. After trying to call the "resort" for advice and getting only recorded messages, we had no alternative but to defy the Council signs and ply our way, in pitch darkness (no street lighting) through the large road barriers. It was fortunate that we did not come to grief at the time because for all we knew, there may have been more digging done and the road could be full of deep holes!!

Check out time at the "resort" was at10am, which we found very inconvenient. As the wedding was at 1pm, we had to change our clothes in a friend's room and in the car...Seems strange that they have a check out time of 10am, given that there are free tours around the vineyards around 9.30am.

One positive aspect of our stay was the very calming view of the vineyards nearby. There was a small, open area with wooden seating outside each room which allowed an unrestricted view over miles of vineyards, which we could apparently have had a tour of, except that we knew nothing about that until we checked in the previous evening. There was no such info that we were aware of on the website when we booked, and nothing on the confirmation page.

Would we stay there again? Hardly likely... Although only a 10 min drive down to the Hunter Valley Gardens, this "resort" is, literally, off the beaten track, far from everything, and has very little going for it except the view. It was also not cheap for a one night stay.

The staff, in general, were very friendly though which had a calming effect after us getting lost for almost an hour looking for the place in the beginning and later that night facing the problem of road blocks.

Room Tip: All the rooms appear to be the same so no tips for which to choose. All seem to have good views on t...

Stayed here over the weekend- in a "spa" cottage. Sure it was fine- bed was comfy bath was great. Our bathroom was a little dirty- there was soil or something under the vanity so every time you ran the shower it ran out onto the floor. The resort itself was okay- nothing great nothing awful. The breakfast was very poor- a complete waste of money to be honest- every thing was lacking in taste. We also had pizza from the restaurant on site- also very poor- i would even go as far to say it was one of the worst pizzas I have ever eaten! Staff were friendly- location was great- very quiet. However I would not stay here again- i did not feel like i got enough for my money!

My husband and I were quite disappointed by our stay on the weekend. We booked a 'vineyard' room with supposed views of a vineyard. What we had was a view of a paddock with a couple of baby grape vine stems planted in front of it. Our room had not been vacuumed, had hairs in the bath and up the side of the bathroom walls as well as cobwebs complete with spiders and dead insects in the corners. When we spoke to reception about our concerns we were told to fill in a form which would be passed on to management at a later time. When we asked what the difference was between the cheaper 'Hunter' room and ours we were told the only difference between the two was the size of the bed (ours was 2 singles pushed together instead of a queen).
Really not impressed, it can best be described as a motel with a pool and certainly not a resort.
