Drove for 9 hours to get here from just outside Toowwomba in Qld. Travelling back to Canberra with adult daughter and wanted to see Christmas lights at the Hunter Gardens. Room was great and location very good for where we wanted to go. Sensed a lack of attention to detail or genuine interest from the staff. Foxtel was not on an not able to be fixed which was annoying. Needs a bit of spark to complement the location.

1st the room was a great size but many things were not working (phone and foxtel) broken (lamps)or just dirty (bedding and toilet)
2nd the only staff that greeted me was the reception the others were always in a rush and always forgot at least 1 thing from my drink/food orders
3rd the buffet breakfast was very under done the food was either not cooked enough over cooked or cold and they only placed a small amount so it would run out very quickly the steakhouse at dinner didn't get any better they didn't have 1 of the choices on the menu that im sure most people would of liked and 2 out of 3 steaks weren't cooked to order the other was like a slab of rubber when I went to cut it I actually shook the table

Stayed here for a lovely romantic trip away after Christmas in the hunter valley. Least it would of been if I had chosen not to stay at the mercure.

Our room had a broken fan in the bathroom that insisted clicking on and off every two mins, the first time we complained they said it's just really sensitive, ok I thought let's try everything to get it to stop. Apparently, we were told you have to close the toilet lid In case it senses the water..!? But come midnight crazy fan was still being crazy, and driving me crazy! Complained a further four times, no suggestion to move rooms until 7pm the night before we were due to leave.. Where they said they would send someone to disable it. Who never came and resulted in another post midnight call to get it reset.

Felt annoyed our complaints weren't taken seriously, staff have obviously been trained in ignoring problems rather than helping customers.

Though .. The room was Clean, spa bath good, no towels in room on arrival (strange) and good location. All reasonable but overshadowed by the shoddy room & lame attitudes of staff..

Saved up for a special end of year trip but I feel like my stay was a massive waste of money when there are so many better choices i should of gone for in huge region..

Second or third time we have atayed here, probably the fourth, and although i read of it being a bit tired and so on, it is still a nice place in a nice part of the Hunter Valley. close to the Gardens which are fabulous at Christmas and also close to a couple of decent restaurants.
the Steak restaurant on the premises was outstanding this last weekend. the food was excellent and the service very good also. A local bottle of red was a bit over priced but it was also a very nice drop and was recommended by the staff.
our only gripe could be with the sofa bed used by our 8 year old grand daughter who complained it was not very comfortable.

Room Tip: There are various rooms at various prices. We stayed upstairs and near the pool. It was fine, no noi...
