This is not a cheap hotel - it is in a great location. We arrived mid afternoon, unloaded our luggage and my husband went to park while I checked in. The receptionist said sorry; they had no trolleys.. or anyone to help us move the luggage to the room as "it's a resort style hotel so you can drive to near your room".

So Management - can I suggest a sign outside saying as much would be very helpful?

Air-conditioning was not good - despite having someone check it out and say they would fix it, they eventually agreed it wasn't working, moved us to another room - it was no better and had an unpleasant smell coming from the bathroom drain.

No safe in the room. Balconies dirty. Beds comfy.

You have to go back to reception to get pool towels which are very thin & small - I suggest you get 2 per person.

Pool area very run-down - broken tiles and bins all around, no shade over pool (worth noting if you have children). No umbrellas, only 6 sun-lounges. The covered areas by the pool were filthy and covered in cobwebs and bird-poo, which was also all around & in the pool! This has been mentioned in older reviews but clearly not taken seriously by management.

Signs are on the gates to the pool saying no glassware by pool and no BYO allowed.... At the bar, we were given our drinks in bottles even though we said they were for by the pool?

On the second morning, a man set up an electric pool cleaner but went off and left it there for the day, plugged in to the wall with the cable running across the poolside area - not very safe I would have thought? And it still didn't do a good job of cleaning the pool....

The gardens and walkways are in need of TLC - could be so much better with a bit of care.

We weren't informed by staff or paperwork in room but apparently you can get 15 mins free wifi in the lobby (heard it from another guest)

Or that you can BYO in the restaurant at lunch time - we did ask if we could for dinner but were told no.

Also you can get "Buy 1 get 1 free admission" to the Gardens next door - another thing we were not informed of.

My impression is this hotel may have once been great - but management do not take that seriously any longer. It's basically an expensive motel now. Very few staff visible - all were young and inexperienced. Rooms are hit and miss in terms of their position and level of decor.

We recently stayed for one night at the Mercure Resort whilst attending the CMC Rocks the Hunter, for the price the hotel is very good, the rooms are nice and very well kept. We also had a meal in the restaurant and found the young staff to be very helpful, polite and professional, the food was very good as well, i would recommend this hotel as good value for money.

Stayed in a 1 bedroom suite for a couple of nights for the day on the green concert. Room was very big but didn't really need all the space. Very 1990's decor but ok none the less.
I would stay in a standard room next time. Good location as you can walk to a few of the wineries and the gardens from here.

I would just like to say a big thank you to the staff and especially the GM Paul O'Rourke, for a nothings to hard to do for you experience in the Hunter Valley a few weeks ago.
My wife and I were going to see Bruce Springsteen at Hope Estate , which was the first time we had been able to go to one of these concerts in the Hunter.
Having travelled up there by ourselves , Paul introduced us to other people that were going to the concert and I must say a good time was had by all.
On return fro said concert there was an outside fire to sit around and regale stories.
Once again a large thank you to all the staff.

Three of us for dinner Wednesday last. The Pumpkin Soup delicious. The steaks were not what was anticipated. The T-Bone was quite thin, fatty and VERY chewy. The 2 Tournedos - Eye Fillets were possibly the worst presentations of medium-rare beef we have EVER experienced. After the Chef sent the waiter out to our table to ask us "would we mind if he butterflied them to hasten the cooking process", I knew immediately we were in for trouble. We waited for 1.5 hours to get them (so much for the butterflying). One was past well done and like shoe leather, the other was medium on one end and bordering on well the other. The shoe leather steak was taken back to the kitchen, and when it re-appeared (finally) it was un-butterflied and how they both should have been presented originally. Who the hell was in charge in the kitchen? Having an International Chef in our family, we have some idea of how Fillet Steaks and T-bones should be selected and cooked, and it definitely was NOT done at the HV Steakhouse.
