As frequent visitors to the Hunter Valley, my husband and I have stayed at all of the main hotels in the area...and the Mecure is the best.
We brought my visiting family members to the Hunter Valley and had the greatest experience at this hotel...best location, central, and within walking distance to the main hubs of the hunter including Harrigans Irish Pub, 5 wineries, restaurants, cheese shops, etc. Beautiful rooms with comfy beds and clean, modern bathrooms. We even recieved a complimentary bottle of wine upon arrival! Staff incredibly hospitable and the on site restaurant/bar are amazing! Huge fire place in the lounge in the bar for a cozy night in, pool tables, a record player, and musical instruments if you fancy a strum. We had a fun jam session with some other guests and got to meet the hotel manager/owner and the chef of the new french restaurant...the owner even gave us a ride to another restaurant because it meant more to him for us to enjoy the hunter valley than to eat at their restaurant! We did get to try several starters and desserts and they were masterchef worthy to say the least! If youre looking for genuine, comfortable and fun hospitality....100% recommend this hotel.

I can't fault the location - it's as central as you would ever need to be in the Hunter. It's nearby to heaps of restaurants and vineyards and the countryside setting is just stunningly beautiful.

As for the hotel - it's a mixed bag. The rooms and hotel need some major TLC - our room had broken and grimy air bricks, the balcony was absolutely covered in thick cobwebs (which have clearly not been cleaned in months), the hand-held shower attachment leaked and was not usable, the walls were grimy, the door needed to be heavily pushed/pulled to close. Generally just shoddy and not well cleaned.

Similar story with the reception area - it hasn't had a facelift in a good many years and is looking really tired. The main lounge/library (with a lovely fireplace) is aging badly and none of the tables are free of scratches and general wear and tear.

The staff were reasonably friendly (especially Sam - thank you!) but didn't go out of their way to help. For example, when checking in I couldn't find my Accor member number. I spent a few minutes trying to find it on my phone and there was never an offer to look it up for me. The lady at reception just stood there looking at me.

The pool area, on the other hand, was lovely and beautifully kept.

The rooms are spacious and clean. We stayed in a room towards the back and it had a nice little back porch leading to a garden and the tennis courts. Easy and convenient place to stay with plenty of attractions close by like the Hunter Valley Gardens and it's shopping area.

We spent one night in this hotel together with friends from Sydney. We thought the room was very cosy with a king bed and also a sitting area. The bathroom was nice and clean and a good size. We had a lovely breakfast in the morning which was included in our prise, so all very good. Walking distance to the Hunter Valley Gardens and some of the wineries too. We can certainly recommend this hotel!

We had a king superior room with a sunken bath. It was nicely made up with a huge king bed and the bath itself was very nice, sunken with a big window in the roof (which in the end was pointless as when you run a bath it produces steam that rises straight to the roof and fogs up the window). We would have appreciated basic kitchen supplies like a couple of knives and forks. Mostly so we could nibble on the cheese from the nearby hunter valley cheese factory. Everything was quite clean, but things were starting to get a little worn - silicone around the bathroom was getting discoloured, etc.

The breakfast was quite nice too. The usual hot buffet with scrambled eggs, baked beans, mushrooms, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, hash browns. A cereal bar, fresh fruit and yoghurt, plenty of pastries and a selection of toasts and waffles. A little expensive, but not too crazy.

We ordered room service after checking out the restaurant (which there isn't a menu in the room - I thought that was rather strange). The food wasn't worth the price, and the specific things on the menu were not available, they called us after ordering and offered a substitute. A bit bland, but convenient for a lazy night in.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, both in person and on the phone.

Room Tip: Our room was at the front of the property and we could hear road noise pretty regularly. Nice view o...
