We stayed with another couple for 2 nights over a weekend in July. The 2 rooms plus an ensuite in each was terrific. The rooms are large (cottage 2) and the open plan dining/kitchen/lounge room was extremely useful to rest in and prepare meals. The BBQ made it simple. The fireplace was spot on to take away the chill of the night. The cabins are located well off the main road so were very quiet with no road noise, yet are pretty centrally located for easy access to wineries.
Overall the price was reasonable compared to others in the area making it a good value weekend.

Stayed at Buffs this weekend with some friends. Cabin was super clean and well appointed. Beds warm and comfortable. We arrived late on a very cold night, the fire was laid for us and the air con was on. Had it been warmer and less windy the large wrap around verandah would have been a lovely place to watch the ducks on the dam. Only concern was the very low quality breakfast provisions. Home brand bacon, home brand cage eggs, very cheap bread, margarine, home brand long life milk. Not things that I would expect in such a quality place.

OK, it was still early in our wonderful trip to Oz and the first day of spotting wild kangaroos, so it was lovely to find a place to stay and have a few on the doorstep.... we had been travelling from Katoomba in the Blue Mountains and thence to the Hunter Valley. The previous couple of nights had been spent in a 'Space Ship' ( a cross between a car and a camper van) and it had been cold and wet. We needed a good nights sleep and a long hot shower.... the bathroom and bedroom were wonderful (there is also a sitting room and balcony) and we were helped in finding a very good restaurant for dinner and a wine tasting the next morning. The cabins are very private, well-equipped and the DIY breakfast is perfect for the setting. As it was the weekend we were warned that finding somewhere to stay/eat could be tricky and expensive (Sydney weekenders) but we did very well indeed in finding this place.

We loved our stay. Wendy was super friendly and helpful, she gave us a great rundown of the area and happily shared her knowledge with us. It is lovely and quiet, in a nice bushland setting and very relaxed. Fantastic facilities, and nice touches that make all the difference - the fans were on in our cottage when we arrived and breakfast supplies all ready in the fridge for our first morning. There's an amazing restaurant within walking distance, and it's not far from the major wineries. Perfect! We will be back next time we're in the Hunter Valley.

We think this is a great value spot for a couple of nights which is why we return. Very little had changed since our stay a year ago, except the weather was more pleasant. Mid week in the Hunter for $258 for two nights including fresh eggs bacon bread cereals etc for do it yourself breakfast each morning is excellent value and Cottage 1 is extremely comfortable for a couple. We used the electric stove, and BBQ and enjoyed our breakfast with wallabies. Grouch is that pans are pretty cheap quality, but everything else makes for an excellent score.

Room Tip: Watch out for the wildlife

We booked to stay at Buffs at Pokolbin for one night midweek in September 2013 whilst we were exploring the wineries in the Hunter Valley.

We arrived around 3pm, a guy told us the key was in the door of our cabin and that was all we saw of the owners until we checked out.

There is a decent space between the cabins, giving privacy.

Our cabin had a small but reasonably equipped kitchen/dining area going into the living area with woodburner. A door goes through to the bedroom then another through to the ensuite, which had a double shower. The bed was a good size and comfortable.

We ate at Blaxland's Inn. They had a great complimentary vehicle, came and collected us and dropped us back free of charge. Food was good, very generous portions.

Breakfast items were provided at Buffs, shame some things weren't slightly better quality (cheap white bread, bacon, spread, juice).

I think there was a pool there but we didn't use it, was a bit chilly the evening we were there. Would've been nice to wander around the property but couldn't really see any paths.

A good place for a romantic getaway in the Hunter Valley. The two bed cabins are probably a good option for a weekend away with family or friends.

We booked this place by accident, but its seemed nice enough. The place was cute and cosy – big enough for more than 2 people. It was well equip and comfortable. Luckily – you didn’t have to see staff if you didn’t want to. That is a good thing. As we were leaving, 15 mins after check out time (packing the car etc), after tidying up – the owner was at our door telling us to leave! So, instead of finishing the cleaning, we went to reception to check out. As we did he followed us up and starting telling the other owner we used the second bedroom and there was a surcharge – not talking directly to us (we were not told of this, and no info about it in the room). I said that I hadn’t realised we couldn’t use the second room in the 2 bedroom cottage id booked!! He then start yelling at us that we left the place a mess!! A few dishes in the sink was all! Even though we were getting kicked out so the cleaners could clean the room!?!?!?

The staff were extremely rude and hostile. Probably best that they NOT be in a service industry?!!? We won’t go back and we definitely don’t recommend this place as you can pay the same at many other places in the Hunter, AND receive the service you pay for. Very disappointing.
