We headed up for 2 nights and were booked for the romantic getaway package. After our first day on a wine tour we headed to the hotel, checked in and were greeted by the most lovely people. We were taken personally to our room and brought our champagne and chocolates. Our room had views of both the vineyard and lakes and was perfectly clean and everything we needed for 2 nights. We had dinner at El Cacciatore that night and after 3 courses each had absolutely no cause for complaints. My pork belly was so tender it fell apart and was delicious. Can also recommend the tortellini entree. In the morning we were brought our hot breakfast which which we enjoyed on the verandah. The bacon was tasty, the eggs were fresh and delicious. Both our meals were so good we ordered again for the following morning. Overall we had an amazing short break. The staff were inviting, friendly and helpful. The only reason we didnt give a 5 was that Im not a good sleeper so would have liked a TV in our bedroom - but in saying that there was one in the living room so I survived :-)

Room Tip: Request the Honeytree Room, great wraparound verandah

Excellent Hotel location was great. Staff were friendly & helpful. Our room was just perfect for us, wrap around balcony overlooking the winery was just beautiful & we loved the high cathederal type ceiling in our room more like a miniture chalet than a hotel room just beautiful. We dinesd at the Italian Restaurant on Saturday Night & the food was just delicious. We had a great weekend

My wife wanted to eat at Il cacciatore ... because the last time she ate there was 15yrs ago! so we decided to stay at Hermitage lodge.

The vineyard studio we stayed in overlooked the vineyard. The vines are really quite young and the room gets the full blast of the winter morning sun. It was also quite new .. and the bathroom had a charm of its own.

The lodge's location in Pokolbin gives it easy access to the major vineyards in the area (by car) such as Tyells, De Bortoli, Brokenwood etc.

The breakfast was provided in the fridge and we helped outside. it was decent. Rooms have wifi, and this is very welcome.

All in , it was a pleasant experience... and the food in the restaurant was fantastic (and not really expensive after you compare it with other locations in the valley, even Blaxlands Inn which is supposed to be less expensive). My only grouse about the restaurant is that the selection of dishes was a bit limited.

The experience itself is a strong 4-stars... that's because the room is comfortable, newish but a bit sterile.

Room Tip: Enjoyed our studio!

My partner and I recently spent a few days here on a midweek getaway. We were well looked after upon arrival and given a tour of our room. Our host was able to provide us with plenty of information on local attractions and was more than willing to help us with any bookings we wanted to make. We booked one of the high end suite as we wanted our own kitchen and a spa for our stay. The room was nice, nothing over the top. Always a huge disappointment to find the all in one bottle attached to the wall of the shower for shampoo/conditioner/body wash (make sure you bring or buy yourself something nicer). Some simple things I would have expected like some candles by the spa and some decent toiletries.

We ate at the on-site restaurant one night. The food was good and our waitress was a complete professional.

Walkable distance to quite a few places like Tempus Two and Brokenwood.

Felt a little over priced, but what in the Hunter isn't?

Thank you for choosing Hermitage Lodge we always appreciate when our guests have nice things to say as well as offering us some feedback.
In response to your areas of disappointment we would like to offer the following comments: unfortunately we are unable to provide candles in any of our rooms. Providing candles in the room is a definite ‘no no’ in regards to our recent insurance policies. Prior to this we did allow candles in the rooms, however it was not uncommon to find wax on the decks, coffee tables and on the carpet. A local accommodation provider recently had to replace the carpet in a room as a result of a candle tipping over. Unfortunately not all people are responsible or considerate when using candles in areas that are not their own.
With regard to the amenities, Hermitage Lodge, with its GREEN STAR accreditation is striving to encourage environmental awareness in the amenities sector. Normally a hotel of our size would use well over 25,000 small bottles of Shampoo, Conditioner and cakes of Soap every year - most of which are only partly used and will end up in landfill. Our solution was to incorporate these environmentally responsible dispensing units in your bathroom - providing you with high quality, biodegradable Soap, Shower Gel and Conditioning Shampoo in a factory sealed, hygienic and recyclable PET container The revolutionary dispensing system supplied in your room is the environmental responsible solution in the field of bathroom amenities. By presenting our guests with these factory sealed (non refillable) dispenser products, we are offering the same high quality “Hydro Basics” products as supplied in many 5 star hotels in Australia and around the world. By supplying these products in a stylish dispenser instead of small portion bottles, we try to be environmentally responsible and minimise our footprint on the environment.
We hope that this may change your views on these dispensers. If our guests do want the individual bottles and soaps we do have some small quantities available in Reception.
Thank you for dining at Il Cacciatore, we are always pleased to read that the kitchen continues to produce good food and the staff is performing their job in the professional manner expected of them.

Thankyou Mark & Noreen. We stayed in the spa bath room for 3 nights & had a great experience. Sipping local wines on the verandah at sunset over the vines, late steamy spa baths & the in room breakfast was a perfect fill as much as it was gourmet all while the room was soaked by the morning sun.

Ate at the restuarant each night two of those nights were take away - just quietly - it was magic to sit in the lounge, by the fire over a local red waiting for take away pizza. Speaking of we found both menus - both A-la-carte / take away were great value along with a very extensive selection of local wines to boot!. Central location, friendly owners. Hermitage Lodge ticked all our boxes, would definately recommend & stay again.

Room Tip: Fitness centre in ratings is n/a. Unless you count arm bending sampling local wines.
