This is both our second marriage so we wanted a casual venue, reasonably priced and a fun night with 110 guests. We have both been to too many overly formal weddings. Being August I was concerned the Terrace area would be cold and we selected the buffet menu ... would there be enough for our guests. Firstly the staff we very help and accommodating, the answer was yes to anything we asked. The Terrace area was fully heated and covered. The food, so much good food and it was a great selection. The guys were complaining they have eaten too much. Here is something you never hear when talking about a wedding ... value for money. The rooms are good, clean and comfortable. We were both very happy with Harrigan's

We booked a room on the spur of the moment, and after reading Tripadvisor, were a little apprehensive about our stay.
We couldn't have been happier with this place. From the confirmation call we got a week prior asking would we like to book the restaurant as it gets so busy, to when we checked out on the Sunday, the service was A1, and much more friendlier than any of the 5 star hotels in the city!
We booked a newly renovated Studio room, overlooking the vineyard.
Whilst it isn't the Shangra-La, it was clean, spacious and nicely decorated. We never had a noise problem like other visitors, we heard nothing! We did however stay out till the band finished on the Friday (Georgie's Playground were awesome),
The ages of the guests in the band area ranged from 18 to 70, which was fantastic to see.
Even on the Saturday night when the night club was in full swing,we got back to the room at 10.15 and we didn't hear a thing.
Meals both nights were delicious and considering the crowd, served in a record time! The steaks and the pie are highly recommended.
Buffet breakfast had a great variety, was plentiful, and the only thing we didn't like was the little sausages.
All the wait and bar staff were friendly, but I have to make special mention of 2.
The guy in the bottle shop let us try the wines before buying, and was so informative.
Can't wait to order more!
When we left the pub at 10pm on the Saturday night (crowd a bit younger and we had had a huge day), the security guards outside the pub near the night club wished us a good night (miracle). When my husband asked if the bottle shop had closed, he advised it did at 9pm, but if we wanted any "takeaways" he would get the bar manager to organise this. We went back up the stairs and were promptly served by another smiling face! AMAZING!! Security guards are usually horrible! This young man went the extra mile to serve us.
I have read the other reviews, and even though we had neighbours and the pub was pumping, our stay was perfect. Thank you Harrigans!!
Can't wait to recommend it, and also return in Springtime when the gardens are in full bloom!
PS the Tallawanta house wines are amazing!!
Cheers!

Room Tip: Room 510 and that row were perfect, as the view was over the vineyards!!

Hi Sharyn_Watt
Great to hear you had a good time with us, 5 block rooms are a great block to enjoy the sun in the courtyard. Georgie's Playgroud is a crowd favourite here on the weekends, they play regularly so when you return in Spring make sure you check our website for when they return :) I will also pass on your comments to the bar, restaurant & kitchen staff.

See you in Spring time!

We stayed for a weekend just recently, rooms on the slightly expensive side, but great non-the-less. The 2 bed accommodation with full kitchen, laundry and fireplace is lovely.
The food as always was awesome, one of our party had a problem with her dinner and the staff were quick to offer a replacement, money back and a drink for her inconvenience. AWESOME SERVICE!!!!! All the staff were very helpful and polite.
A relaxing place to unwind, visit the local village shops, or sit back and enjoy the music.

Room Tip: The double room is a cheaper option for 2 couples. It has 2 bathrooms.

Well, there are pros and cons about staying here..

The pros....it's the only pub in Pokolbin so if you want a late night or two partying here...then it's pretty convenient to head to your room afterwards. The location is good, so vineyards are not far away. The rooms are a bit daggy, but they are clean and roomy enough. The room we had had a nice vineyard view from the courtyard. The pub itself is great, has a fantastic vibe, nice during the day and by night; the food is ok....make sure you book to get a table as it is really busy. One advantage with staying here is that after a wine tour we could not drive anywhere....and we actually could not get a taxi either (they were all booked out). So....at least we had some access to food and entertainment.

The cons....well, the rooms are dated. The air con struggled to heat the room (we were there in July) during the day but when we tried to sleep it was a sauna! But mainly it was the noise. The walls were paper thin, and the inconsiderate families on both sides of us had screeching children from early morning (like 6 am) which was not muffled in the slightest. True, the hotel cannot help inconsiderate parents who allow their children to scream near your door for an eternity, but the walls were particularly thin. This was then exacerbated by the kitchen/bar staff tossing all the empty bottles into the bins only metres from our door. Ok...so it was 8am but they also provide earplugs to help you sleep beyond the pub noise (bands etc) that occurs until 2am as they have a "pub culture". Seemed a bit inconsistent to expect guests to accept night pub culture until 2am but then be prepared to enjoy noisy cleanup at 8am.

Anyway, it really comes down to choice. I prefer the Crowne Plaza (for example) as a place to stay; but if you want to party late and don't want to risk not being able to get home, then Harrigans is an ok choice. It just isn't luxurious or peaceful. Just handy.

Room Tip: Nowhere near the bins. Unless you are up early.

Hi Beachykeen,
Thank you for your feedback, your comments are a vital part or our internal review process. Glad to hear you enjoyed your time at the pub with our live entertainment. With recently having the school holidays and with kids activities on at Hunter Valley Gardens we did have an increase in families durig July. If this was mentioned during your stay we would have done our best to ensure that your stay was not disrupted at all.
We understand that we are not in the same accommodation category as luxury hotels in the area however we strive to ensure that all of our guests walk away with great memories of their time with us.
Again thank you for your comments, we hope to see you again in the future!

Stood longer in the queue to order but food arrived very quickly on Sunday- food was good and atmosphere great- lots of families and plenty of cheer around on the day. Good experience and food was very tasty- had the bubble & squeak and soup of the day - thought the seafood basket was a bit greasy - else fine

Thanks for your feedback, Sundays are a popular family day at the pub. The chefs do a sensational job of getting meals out when it is busy. Glad you enjoyed your day and I will certainly pass on your comments to our restuarant!

Stayed for a work function & had a separate room for dinner. Food was ordinary but beer was cold & vibe of the place good. The rooms are just normal motel rooms with nothing to write home about but comfortable enough.
Good place to base yourself close to major wineries & just up the road from Hunter Valley Gardens.

The bar had great beer on tap and the service was so quick and friendly. I would highly recommend dropping in for a feed if your up this way.
