Splinters Guest House

We booked Splinters Guesthouse based on earlier reviews to celebrate our 18 year anniversary. This was our first time at the Hunter Valley and we absolutely loved it.
My husband and I stayed in one of the cottages for 3 nights and could of easily stayed for longer (but our children wouldn't of been too happy back home).
Bobby is just wonderful - a lovely lady who provides only the best in her guesthouse.
The cottage was beautiful and very clean. All the extras like a cheese platter and bottle of wine on arrival, port and chocolates made us feel special. The property is lovely - my husband enjoyed playing Par 3 (golf) and I enjoyed the peaceful scenery. We will definitely return to Splinters and recommend this place 100%. During our stay we went to the Hunter Valley Wine School (very interesting if you want to learn more about wine making and tasting), Cheers wine tasting tour (excellent - the tour was well organised), ate at Amanda's on the Edge (delicious) and Brokenback BBQ & Tapas Bar (very nice food and great cocktails) and recommend a Balancing mud moor bath & facial at The Golden Door Spa (felt like I was on top of the world!). From Canberra it took us just over 5 hours to get to Pokolbin and it is so worth it. I can't wait to go back.

This place is fantasitc, it is sooooo quiet and the setting is lovely all you can hear is the noise from the lake. Bobby looked after us, she couldn't do any more. Her breakfast baskets are too good, we ate the lot!! We stayed in the en-suite room which was perfect and had ample space, we used the dining and seating area outside the room for nibbles and wine. Bobby also contacted The Balcony restaurant and they came and picked us up took us to the restaurant and dropped us off, how good is that! Incidentally the food was amazing there too (tapas). Overall a brilliant experience, would recommend 100%, can't wait to go back....

What can I add to what has been said before? Bobby is as fabulous as everyone says, she is just fantastic, so helpful and kind. She looked after us so well that after only 3 days we felt more like extended family than paying guests. Great location, great views, great rooms and lovely, home cooked breakfasts.

Our accommodations were beyond our expectations. We had a beautiful view, stocked refrigerator, and great sleeping conditions. Shortly after our arrival she came to see us and helped us to find places to eat and vineyards to visit. We had a fabulous stay! This is 5 out of 5 stars.

From the moment we arrived our hostess Bobby made us feel extremely welcome and gave us some excellent advice about what to do locally during our two night stay. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was very comfortable with everything we needed. The cheese and wine were delicious, and a taste of things to come! Splinters is a walk away from some of the Hunter's best small wineries (in my opinion), but the "Cheers" tour was ideal for those wanting to visit those a bit further away without having to drive. After returning from the wine tasting we sat in the peace and quiet of the terrace outside our room drinking some of our purchases and watching the local wildlife. With such beautiful surroundings you would struggle not to relax. We would not hesitate in staying here again.

An all round superb place to stay. We only had one night in Hunter Valley, but we could have stayed for a week. This guest house is just perfect. Wonderfully clean rooms, all the amenities you need, including a good coffee maker, a/c, fan, wonderful bathroom, all very modern looking. Beds were really comfy, but best of all was the welcome and friendliness we received from the owner, Bobby. She was knowledgeable about the region and the wines, suggested and booked the best restaurants for us, and made our stay so fabulous we simply didn't want to leave. Breakfast sat outside of our room overlooking the grounds was simply wonderful too. We would have wanted to do this everyday if we could. I will NEVER stay anywhere else in the Hunter Valley other than here. A little bit of me doesn't want to be so nice, to ensure when I come down next, there will still be a vacancy for me, but with reviews like these on here I wouldn't be surprised if it's booked out!

Stayed at Splinters in November 2008 with my boyfriend, my brother and sister-in-law. We loved it. The rooms were spotlessly clean and spacious. The welcome platter of cheese and wine was a really lovely touch, which we enjoyed sitting out on the terrace enjoying the peace. Bobby is an truly marvelous hostess, she arranged a wine tour for us and made a fantastic restaurant suggestion - Amanda's on the Edge, where I ate one of the best dinners I've had! On our second night at Splinters, we stopped at a deli on the way back from our wine tour and picked up a selection of anti-pasti and other nibbles, when we got back, Bobby kindly provided us with extra plates and cutlery so we could enjoy it al fresco. Splinters is a real gem and an excellent base to explore the Hunter Valley from. I'd definitely go back!
