“A warm welcome in the Hunter Valley”
Reviewed 18 February 2010

We stayed at Splinters for a couple of nights after the bustle of Sydney. It was the perfect retreat and a great base to explore the vineyards and restaurants.
Bobby was welcoming and helpful as soon as we arrived, and made some great suggestions for activities based on what we like to do.
We had planned to go to dinner on the first evening, but by the time we had been round a few vineyards we plumped instead for some bread, cheese and olives accompanied by some of the wine we had collected on our travels - Bobby laid out a dinner tray for us on the terrace and we had a lovely, relaxing evening. On our last night, we went with her recommendation to dine at Amanda's on the Edge, and had a fantastic time - the food was superb.
Rooms at Splinters are very comfortable and well equipped, there is a nice pool to dip in and pretty grounds.
Breakfast was a real highlight - Bobby served this on the terrace each morning, and the selection was probably the best I have seen at a guest house. We had lovely warm croissants, omletes, fresh fruit, yoghurts - you name it.

I would thoroughly recommend Splinters to anyone looking for a relaxing base to explore the Hunter, with customer service second to none

Thanks Bobby - I hope we can make it back there someday

When my husband and I planned our holiday to Australia we decided to visit places we had not been to before with one exception. We both agreed that we wanted to return to stay with Bobby at Splinters. It was the right decision, Bobby greeted us like long lost family and it felt like it had been a few weeks since we saw her rather than two years.

The property is still as charming as ever, well kept, clean and relaxing. The free wireless internet was a bonus so we could check the local news and email home. Complimentry cheese and wine on the veranda on arrival was a perfect way for us to relax as we chatted to Bobby about where we would like to have dinner. As usual she recommended and booked a great restaurant for us.

The next day it was too hot for our planned cycle tour of the vineyards so Bobby marked up some good smaller vineyards on the map plus a recommendation for lunch. Following her advice we had a perfect day and enjoyed cooling off in the pool when we returned.

We bought some cheese, cured meats and salad from a local delicatessen and Bobby set the table on the veranda for us to enjoy our dinner.

Nothing is too much trouble for Bobby and she is also great company . We had a few laughs.....

The Hunter Valley is a long way from our home in Sweden but I am sure that we will return to Splinters in the future.

My boyfriend and I spent 2 wonderful nights here!
We arrived around 4pm and Bobby was there to greet us! What a wonderful host she is! She welcomed us and showed us around and it was a nice touch to find a bottle of Wine, Cheese and Crackers in our room! OurRoom was gorgeous and very spacious! It really is better than some of the 5* hotels we stayed before! Bobby and her husband really do work hard to keep the grounds and rooms immaculate! It's a really beautiful setting and I wish we could have stayed longer than 2 nights!
We didn't have a car to drive around and Bobby was very kind and dropped us off to a Bike Rental place!
ps! Would not reccommend to ride a bike when it's +30 outside! :O) Lesson learned!
Bobby also booked us a table in the near by Restaurant and gave us some advise where to go and what places to visit!
Thank you so much for looking after us!
I'm hoping to return soon!

In total agreement with everyone else who stayed here. You could not be treated better anywhere else. We arrived with no booking but were swiftly accommodated and made to feel very welcome. Bobby suggested many things to do, places to see and also arranged horse riding, restaurant bookings etc She really is a star. The guesthouse itself is idyllic, in a picture perfect setting. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable, with nice little touches such as the supply of wine, crackers and cheese. The breakfast basket in the morning is amazing, like nothing i've experienced at any other hotel, B&B or guesthouse. 5 stars indeed.

From the moment we arrived Bobby treated us like long lost friends. She suggested things to do (vineyards that we could walk to), places to go and even booked restaurants for us. Including a free glass of fizz each. Our group particular welcomed the free bottle of wine, cheese, chocolates and port on arrival. We could not thank Bobby enough for her hospitality and genuine attitude. We will definately return!!!

From the moment we arrived until we reluctantly left we loved staying at Splinters Guest House. Bobby was there to greet us, like an old friend, asked us what we wanted to do on our visit, and had lots of suggestions. She rang and booked a restaurant for us, and recommended wineries to visit.
Our room was comfortable, and the facilities great. We appreciated the lounge with a supply of books DVD's and massage chair. Everything was clean and welcoming, the grounds lovely, with water features, pool, and gazebos for relaxing. A lovely atmosphere.
The location was perfect for us, everything we wanted to visit seemed 'just down the road'.
Breakfast each morning was a special treat, taken outside admiring the view. At night it was lovely sitting outside sipping wine by candlelight, relaxing after a tough day of wine tasting, and chatting to other guests, Bobby's friendliness seemed contagious.
We loved everything about Splinters; thank you Bobby also for the tickets to the Christmas lights- just amazing! See you again soon!!

Accommodation in the Hunter Valley is not cheap. So when I found Splinters, I thought maybe it was a bit too good to be true at $150 a night per couple (from Sun-Thu) which included breakfast and on arrival port, chocolate, cheese platter and a small bottle of wine. We stayed a queen ensuite room which was very charming in its country way. The room included TV, fridge, tea/coffe and toast making equipments and air-con- it all felt very comfortable. The owner, Bobbi is very sociable and will provide recommendations to activities in the region, restaurants, wineries. After finding out where we wanted to have dinner, she was straight on the phone to help us make a booking. She also brings breakfast into your room in the mornings, and yes breakfast is really good - cereal, toast, juice, milk, fruit salad & usually something hot as well (in our case mini omlettes). Splinters is also situated in a good location, closed to some good wineries (ie. Keith Tulloch).
The bathroom was spacious with a shower facility. We noted was that guest towels were not changed on a daily basis but were just hung up to dry.
There is limited wi-fi internet access, I was told you had to go out on the porch to access it....yeah ok.
Other than that, we enjoyed our stay here.
