Dining at Muse with a very good friend was to be the highlight of our three-night stay in the Hunter region. I cooked a magnificent Thai chicken curry on our first night; we ate out the next and on the last I cooked an amazing rack of lamb with all the trimmings. Sorry to say that my own little home-cooked meals stole the show from Muse.
The ostentaciousness is totally unnecessary in what is essentially a 'brasserie/cafe' restaurant trying to put on high heels and a tiara for the evening.
There was no finesse about any of the food prep and sitting watching the kitchen staff going about their preparation was just horrible. No love in that kitchen at all!
I will not go on; it was just a massive disappointment all round. My meal (the presentation was ludicrous and something that looked like one of the KIDS from Kids Masterchef put together) was very ordinary despite being 'spatchcock'. Absolutely no polish in this place which charges like a wounded bull. Wait staff, whilst polite, were very ordinary and lacked the enchantment one would expect of such a 'highly priced' (supposedly high calibre) restaurant.
All is not lost; I am sure that with a little refinement, these guys could scrape it into a three-star and eventually get there (five star) with some professional guidance. I see these guys have one hat ... I can see them having two or three in the near future with just some 'spit' and polish. Overall it was a lovely evening but way too expensive for the service and food which both lacked lustre.
