Set a little out of town, but with views over and a 30-second walk to, the Town beach, this is an ideal spot for chilling out or to explore this delightful region. There are many other beaches, to suit all tastes, within a 30 min walk, or a few minutes drive,as well as boat trips in all directions.
The Observatory itself is very well appointed, and kept in pristine condition. The rooms are large, with all the appliances and facilities you would expect. There is an in-house restaurant serving excellent locally-sourced fayre, a separate coffee shop and gift shop, and an impressively-sized indoor swimming pool, spa and sauna.
The staff are friendly and courteous, and do everything possible to make your stay memorable.

Room Tip: An Ocean view is desirable

It seems this hotel has apartments and 'hotel rooms', the potential view over the sea was very good from both, however any view is not be helped by the mandatory shoreline pine trees Aussies seem to plant for the benefit of the view by those fishing. The apartments have open balconies, we stayed in the hotel room and were very disappointed as the 'balcony' was louvered and enclosed. See pic.
The location is waterfront and a few blocks from the centre of town. The staff are great, there is undercover parking, and good comfortable room furnishings, we found the WiFi was a bit variable - OK at 2.30am.

Room Tip: Choose an upper apartment

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

We are pleased that you enjoyed the location. In regards to our rooms, The Observatory is made up of hotel rooms and apartments. The hotel rooms which you stayed in have an enclosed balcony with louvers you can look out through to see the ocean. The apartments have open balconies and are fully self contained.

Thank you also for your great feedback about our staff. Thanks again for taking the time to leave your feedback.

We look forward to welcoming you again.

The so called 'gourmet' bbq was broken (ignition didn't work so had to use a lighter), very dirty and had a shameful torn, tatty cover (they cost around $40 new).

The apartment is also due for refurbishment - the lounge was grotty, the white rugs very stained and the decor very dated. We had a quick peek at 'The Observatory' penthouse next door - and it's decor was so tasteful in comparison to the poor old Galileo. Perhaps a reflection on the owners? At $370 per night during the week, and over $600 per night during some peak periods, the standard of this apartment really needs to be improved.

Our other gripe was the lack of food larder space in the kitchen - we had to move platters and bowls to make room on one shelf for our cereals, pasta etc. The number of platters and bowls that were in the cupboards was ridiculous and needs to be minimised to make room for guest provisions - especially if they are staying for 4 nights or more.

Having stated the negatives of this apartment - the view of the beach and the coast beyond was spectacular! So we cleaned the BBQ and moved some crockery, gave the place a sweep and settled in happily.

Town beach is just across the road and the coastal walk is very pretty. Just be aware that it is bootcamp alley at sunrise - we counted 6 exercise groups - and likely to disturb any need for peace and tranquility...so leave the walk during the week until later in the morning, after bootcamp has finished.

It's also worth noting that the milk bar downstairs only provides milk and newspapers daily - bread is only delivered once a week and needs to be ordered. So you'll need to stock up at your supermarket shopping expedition - or find an alternative place for bread nearby.

If you don't feel like cooking, takeaway meals can be ordered from the Scampi restaurant on the ground floor - but if they're busy, they won't prepare the seafood platter for you - so be prepared to be flexible!

Overall a pleasant stay because of the view - but we were very disappointed with the standard of the penthouse apartment.

Room Tip: Galileo penthouse has a great central view of both the ocean and the hills from the 7th floor - but...

The view as we entered our 1 Bedroom apartment was fantastic, which only got better when we opened the full frontage bi-fold doors. The décor & furnishings were comfortable & modern, kitchen excellent and cutlery & crockery nice and clean. The bed was comfy, storage good and the shower we loved. Couldn’t fault our stay. Thoroughly recommend The Observatory.

We really enjoy staying here. We have stayed twice in 2 years with each a great experience.

Our last stay was a short one but we stayed in the 3 bedroom penthouse where our 2 kids thought they were on top of the world. Particularly when they spotted the skate park close by.

The kids loved the pool and the milkbar downstairs but we most appreciated an amazing space in which we could cook, relax and stretch out

Enjoy this place. It's easy, clean and simply has the most amazing views.
