A mate and I stayed for two nights on a motorbike trip and we were glad we did. The 'pub' is in immaculate condition - although the accommodation rooms are a bit 'tired' - and has a great 'feel to it. If you're sitting in the saloon bar, or out in the beer garden or with a mate in the more relaxed public bar, you'll find a comfortable and pleasant spot for a cold beer (a great choice on tap and bottle) and some great wines. The restaurant has a great menu and the chef is accomplished but $37 for a cooked 450 gram rib on the bone is Sydney CBD prices, not what you expect to pay in a country pub (that said, it was an excellent piece of meat).
I had to make a couple of requests of the management - nothing serious or complicated – but found each request met with a fairly frosty attitude. I don’t know if everyone was just worn out after the country music festival (which finished a couple of weeks before our stay) but it marred an otherwise pleasant stay.
The wait staff ( mostly young women) are friendly, helpful and quick, as are the bar staff (although knowing the difference between a lager and a pilsener would be useful).
All in all, a great pub – probably the best in Tamworth – and well worth the stay.More
