Spent 2 nights over the weekend recently with my partner for his birthday. Stayed in the Blue Wren chalet & it was fantastic. Beautiful loft accommodation with huge outdoor sunken spa on deck, very comfy bed & fire to sit by. We were looking for a couple getaway that had privacy & luxury while being able to enjoy nature & that is exactly what we got. The Blue Wren has 3 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms so could bring friends, kids & even the dogs next time. Went for a drive to the lagoon & on site damn & attempted to catch some bass, but they eluded us…this time… We also had the option to go horse riding or mountain bike riding, 4 wheeling or bush walking. We could have even visited beautiful Diamond beach just 25 mins away but instead we just stayed in our luxury accommodation the whole time, watched the sun rise & set from our verandah & soaked our troubles away in the spa.

I can be fussy when it comes to organizing a getaway, planning everything so it's perfect, researching reviews & photos & comparing pricing but Clarendon Forest Retreat did not disappoint. I can usually find something that let me down but I can’t honestly fault them on anything at all.

Is a great setting for young or old, couples, families or a group of friends. They can even arrange food delivery to your cabin & have a romantic package where flowers are spread through your accommodation & chilled Champaign is waiting for you.

We had great privacy & peace & quiet & pricing was very reasonable. The manager even let us have an early check in & gave us keys to some of the other cottages check out for next time..I have my eye on the Chapel for next time…or maybe even the Sanctuary! I would also want to stay longer as once you unpack the car in this place you just don’t want to leave & you can get great deals on longer stays.

Thanks to manager Peter & owner Sharon & Tony for being so lovely & accommodating & providing such a great place to stay, we will definitely be back!

Spent two nights in "Blue Wren" Cottage which had all that we required and was without doubt one of the most scrupulously clean accommodation offerings we've ever stayed in. The kitchen was well equipped with all we required to cook up winter comfort food. The cottage is spacious and the beds truly comfortable. Quality towels, good bed linen. TV/DVD player which was not switched on at all whilst we were there as the views of the surrounding countryside were all that were required for hours of catching sun on the deck and watching the wallabies, horses and rabbits across the fields. There is also an iPod dock for some background music if you wish to complement the birdsong. Did i mention how relaxing this place is?

We were happy to be able to take our dog along with us too - please note though that there are a couple of dogs that live on the property and are free to roam about, so if your dog isn't friendly you'll need to be vigilant when the lovely local tail-waggers drop by. The deck does have a lockable gate so we could keep our somewhat antisocial old dog away from potential altercations and we walked him on a lead when we took him off the large deck.

We were hoping to feel entirely secluded and to that end, should we visit Clarendon again we would opt for The Hideaway which was truly out of the way of the other cottages. Blue Wren is fairly close to what appeared to be a permanent residence on the property that somewhat took away from the sense of quiet and seclusion.

The cottage itself is lovely though, so if you're ok with having neighbours nearby (seen but not really heard) then you'll be fine.

The spa was a delight, particularly at night in the crisp air. It added a note of luxury and decadence as we relaxed in the warm, clean water and watched the stars.

I'd happily return to Clarendon and would opt to stay at The Hideaway Cottage. I'd recommend anyone going to this property to contact the owners for a chat about which cottage will best suit you. Enjoy!

Room Tip: For complete privacy and a real sense of seclusion, opt for The Hideaway.

The 5-night special was excellent. After about an hour we put all our electronic devices aside and forgot about them. No asking for Ipads, Iphones, Leap Pads etc. We retreated to the spa bath and watched the kangaroos, went for walks of varying lengths, had picnics, went on horse rides, played tennis and found little reason to leave the estate for the 5 days we were there. Our 3 year old and our 6 year old found endless games to play without needing external stimuli and generally the whole family de-stressed almost instantly, but without getting bored.

The cottage was well heated and also had a fire place and so we had the warmest, sunniest and possibly cheapest and most relaxing winter holiday in our family record book!

Thank you. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: There are cottages with the spas below the deck so that when in it your view will not be obscured by a balcony railing.

We are city slickers that live and work in the Sydney CBD and coming out to a place where we consider 'in the middle of no where' is very appealing.

We stayed in the Waterlily house last year and it was nice - BUT this time we stayed in the Hideaway / Talahwal house - absolutely amazing.

Talahwal has gorgeous decor, the main bedroom bed is up there with ones in a 5* hotel, bathrooms are modern and spacious, but the kitchen.. Fabulous! If you aren't into cooking it is still something great to look at. And as a couple that don't have a log fire place or see one often, we loved having a fire every night. Especially to roast marshmallows!!

The downstairs has 2 bedrooms with 2 single beds in each and an entertainment area. We didn't use this area ourselves but could imagine it provides a get away for families with kids. Probably would be nice to have a double bed option in these rooms just so 3 couples holidaying together don't fight over the main bed :)

Out on the large verandah is the spa and two sets of tables and chairs. We had breakfast out on deck each morning - rain or shine. It was a fresh way to start the day. We usually eat standing/ walking and rushed in our normal lives so it was nice to sit, relax, sip, chew, digest!

Usually in my review I write pros and cons. Talahwal has no cons.

If you want a relaxing, tranquil place to get some fresh air and give your body some well earned rest, book here. I have never felt so relaxed before.

Next time I come here the only thing I'd do differently is book for longer than 3 nights!

IF you want to go do something, visit Honeycomb Valley which is approx 20mins drive away. Love the goats!!

We stayed one night in The Hideaway cottage. It is more a house than a cottage, it has everything you could possibly want. The views were stunning and we had complete privacy. Be prepared and take everything with you as you won't want to leave. The wood-burning heater was effective and added to the atmosphere on a cold winter's night. Next time we will stay at least 3 days. Please note that you need to drive about 6km on an unsealed road to get there but it was worth it.

Room Tip: There are several cottages to choose from. Talk to the manager to decide which one will suit you best.
