“Worst food and service in the gong”
Reviewed 19 May 2011

There were only 2 people serving the whole restaurant, food was slow coming out. Food was way too oily and there was nothing"special" about the special fried rice.Overall the $100 for 2 people was a rip off .When we wanted to express our unhappiness and why there was so much food uneaten , the owner came out and said "oh well, you should have said something when you took your first bite". What a waste of our time... never going back and I heard rumblings from the other few people that were in there...

“Rip off”
Reviewed 17 May 2011

We had a 40th birthday party there and had a banquet for 24 people. At the end of the night they overcharged us for three people who weren't there which cost us about another $95. Despite numerous discussions we were told their staff dont make mistakes and we would have to pay. It was interesting that their staff initially charged for tea and coffee which was suposed to be included in the price until they were challenged on the pricing. They admitted they made a mistake, but in terms of people numbers they never make mistakes. They were arragont about the whole matter and considering the number of other Asian restaurants in the city I cant understand their attitude and definetely dont recommend this place and suggest going somewhere else.

“This place has it all !”
Reviewed 14 December 2009

This place has been around for a while and it has always represented good quality food at very affordable prices. For the price of pizza to feed the family, you get much better quality food and a larger variety.

While this place has been around for a long time, it's pretty much a hidden treasure. This means that you can always get a table and it's not too noisy so you can actually have a conversation without losing your voice. Also it's a large restaurant so ou don't feel like a caged chook because the other tables are packed so closed to you.

Also, they have recently put an online ordering system in so you can order delivery, takeaway or even book a table online !

Love this place !

“You have to try this place!”
Reviewed 1 November 2009

This place is great!

I lived on the South Coast for years and had not heard of this place until recently.
It's been here for 20yrs apparently!

Anyway the food is great and of a high quality.

Service is friendly and overall good.

If you want quantity and not quality, I suggest you go to a smörgåsbord...this place is all about quality. That being said the portions are what you'd expect from this type of a restaurant so nothing good or bad about the sizes.

The restaurant is a tad quiet probably due to it's hidden location but suits me just fine to enjoy the palatial decor to myself. check out their pics on the website and you'll know what i mean. www.fortunapalace.com.au

You'll be surprised how little this place charges. So I think one of the previous reviewers must be on a govt pension or something if he found it a little exxy.

Overall it's the best chinese in the gong. Shame about the location. Pretty easy to drive right past it.

“Hidden Gem”
Reviewed 27 July 2008

This place is really a hidden gem!

The food is fabulous tasting, quality is excellent and prices are very reasonable!

The decor is amazing!
it truly feels like you've stepped in a chinese palace with the traditional looking chinese decor you wouldn't find anywhere else.

We had the mongolian beef, satay prawns, honey king prawns, crispy pork strips with peking sauce (VERY nice!), fried rice and fried ice creams for dessert. The flavour of the sauces are lovely and perfectly balanced...nothing overpowering...perfectly cooked!!

We saw a fellow diner have the "peking duck pancake" where you roll pieces of peking duck, hoisin sauce, shallots and cucumber in a thin hot pancake. Looked great but it needed to be pre-ordered so we'll try it next time.

Overall a fabulous dining experience though a little hard to find.

It's tucked in opposite the multistory Myer carpark and has 2 fancy looking marble lions outside.

I highly recommended this place!

The thing that really impresses is the REAL quality of the ingredients. Make no mistake. If you want QUALITY chinese food instead of the "el cheapo" unprofessionally cooked corner shop chinese, this is the place for you.

Five stars! We'll be back for sure when we visit Wollongong again.
