“Disappointing start”
Reviewed 14 July 2014 via mobile

Sunday Morning brunch turned into a disappointing experience.
My boyfriend specifically wanted French toast for breakfast so we checked the website and was pleased to see this was available only to realise this wasn’t on the menu when we arrived. Without making a fuss we ordered the big breakfast and smoked salmon eggs Benedict with 2 smoothies. The smoothies tasted like milk and syrup, fairly certain they were not made with real fruit and to top it off cost $7 and were in plastic containers. We had hoped our meals would at least satisfy our disappointment only to find the baby spinach under the hard sourdough bread without any butter. With a very thin hollandaise sauce which was sparing with luke warm overcooked poached egg on both meals. The waitresses were friendly and the location was perfect however the food quality was not worth experiencing again. As I work in hospitality I felt obligated to share this negative feedback with the supervisor In the hope that others wouldn’t have to share our disappointment again. Only to be left disappointed one last time as there was no apology or suggestion of a complimentary coffee. Well Done Bombara for losing a customer! Your kitchen needs to shape up as do your standards for the overall customer experience.

Thanks for bringing the French toast to our attention, it will be amended and I'm glad that you understand that these things happen.

With regards to your meal the bread is supposed to be buttered and we apologise for the oversight by our staff on the day. Thankyou for bringing it to the attention of a supervisor on the day before writing the review. As you quite rightly said we are disappointed that complementary coffee wasn't offered and the incident will be addressed with those concerned.

We hope you will accept our offer that will be inboxed as an apology.

“valentine disaster”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

My mother in law purchased a gift voucher for us at Bombora and was assured we would receive a wonderful experience.
What a joke , service was non existant to the point a young man asked if we needed cutlery then proceeded to tell us where would find it! Some tables had table service whilst others didnt. When food arrived it was inedible we ordered fish was frozen in middle and burnt on outside, that is just the start. We took our dishes back to the counter and told the lady at the till our problem and left. On referring our complaints via the telephone to the manager we were offered one meal in replacement. As we attended as a couple and ordered two meals which were returned felt was not a viable option.
As there is quite a bit of quality choice and value of sea venues in Wollongong Bombora needs to seriously lift its game.

We are quite confused by this review. We serve only fresh fish from local sources. There is ....ABSOLUTELY NO... possibility that our fish could be frozen in the middle.

We can see that the review was recently written in regards to a dining experience 5 months ago and understand that the details of your meal, OR PERHAPS THE VENUE, may been clouded.

We sincerely wish people would raise their concerns on the particular day rather than walk out without giving restaurants the opportunity to make amends.

“Tasty meal”
Reviewed 14 June 2014 via mobile

Meals are generous and well priced. Relaxed atmosphere, but it could get noisy if crowded. Recommend going earlier rather than later in the evening.

“An Enjoyable Lunch”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

My mother and I enjoyed a very pleasant "girls lunch" at Bombora. The atmosphere was very relaxing with a beautiful view over the harbour. We had difficulty choosing our meals as there was so much to choose from, the menu is extensive with something to please everyone, and the prices are very reasonable. The restaurant was busy, but our meals arrived very promptly, and the service was efficient without being intrusive. Our meals certainly represented value for money. They make awesome coffee too! All in all, one of the best lunches we've enjoyed in a very long time.

Thanks for your kind review. Glad you enjoyed your dining experience and girls lunch. It looks like you had the sizzling prawn hot pot which is one of my favourites too.
Hope to see you both in again soon.

“Crazy, so much potential, 1.69 Stars out of 5 rounded to 2/5”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

Bombora plusses on the day; Great view over the water if you stand up and peer over the two 1 meter apart backyard style pool fences, casual fit out, easy parking. Food well-cooked and presented by skilled kitchen staff who know how to cook, long menu with something for everyone, Medium priced, small selection of alcoholic beverages ranging from Bogan (Pink Vodka Cruisers to go with the $25 Chicken Parmi) to medium level wine and boutique beer. Well presented, friendly and keen service staff. Business management monitors this site

Bombora negatives on the day; Cafeteria/mining camp commissary/asylum seeker Sodexo detention center service style, double fenced view to give authenticity to institutional service regime , brought in from foodservice industry desserts, hot glasses available from the top of the Expresso machine to put your beer in if you don’t want to swig your Knapstein Micro Brew out of the bottle.

Restaurants and Cafes have four elements, Location/Ambience, Product, Service and Value for Money. So in this review I will separate them score each element out of 5 stars
.
Location high up over the little Port scores high marks totally negated by two layers of black high cheap pool fencing obscuring your seated view, fit out ambience “casual dining”, good availability of parking. Awarded 1 out of 5 Stars .So unless you lived and offended in the outback and it’s a long time since you have seen the sea through the bars of your prison cell and the yard fence this location is not going to grow on those who are yet to serve a long custodial sentence. I have begun to get some appreciation of the Manus Island Detention Centre experience.

Product is strength of the place, congratulations Head Chef and other chefs ,3 ½ starts out of 5

Service offering , muddled, stupid, messy and unprofessional, do it yourself (“cause where all busy and the boss says you should”), some of the food delivered by and keen and well-presented floor staff , plenty of staff on just not doing anything much for me (I guess must be busy doing other important stuff). ¼ Star out of 5

Value for Money, $30 for two courses of well-presented and professionally cooked fresh food seems good, high prices for alcohol considering you have to go to the soft drink fridge and get it yourself then either drink it out of the bottle of drop your beer into a cheap heated glass $2 Reject Shop tumbler. Service style chosen and double pool fencing obscuring the view discount the result making it expensive for what you get, and where you get. Food only the contributor to value for money,, 2 starts out of 5

Must fixes to be satisfactory, get lazy landlord to remove double set of high black cheap pool fencing, sit down and come up with service delivery system that is professional and consistent with your investment, your product, its price and legitimate customer expectations and feedback.

This place has potential to be very good indeed if fixes done by landlord and business owners. Go for the food and hold your nose about the rest and I am guessing that pigs will be flying over Belmore Basin before this businesses is brought up to a pass mark.

Thanks for your creative review. We agree that the view is sublime and want to state that the temporary fences are that......temporary. I do wish the sensationalist tone was substituted for a more in depth critique however so we could work on improving things as we value our customers feedback.
We apologise that you were served a heated glass as we have chilled ones that are given out when asked. We have again reminded all our staff of the procedure.
We find our service to be very effective and able to handle a full restaurant with minimal delays. Waiting time for ordering is minimal and set at the diners pace. People can choose to pay separately or as a group. Meal waits are strictly monitored.
We are all about improving our dining experience and wish you would have elaborated on what you deem to be a professional delivery system.
