We did a day trip to Bundaberg from Hervey Bay and dropped in to the Botanic Gardens to check out this museum.
Well laid out exhibition with full-sized replicas of the aircraft flown by this pioneer of flight. I learned about Bert Hinkler in school but obviously missed out on many (most) of the finer details. The link to the explosion of the Challenger space shuttle was both fascinating and extraordinary.
The relocated Hinkler house, Mon Repos - named after the local Bundaberg beach where Hinkler launched his early gliders - which was saved from demolition and dismantled in England, then rebuilt in the Botanic Gardens, is a bonus.
Take the time to sit and watch the various video presentations, they are worth checking out. And if you have the time take a leisurely wander through the gardens.
