Located on the edge of the town centre the Batman Fawkner lays claim to be the oldest brick build hotel in Tasmania (or Australia, can't remember which). The front face of the building is frankly rather grand and exciting with a bright colour scheme. Top marks for that. The rooms themselves (I had a double with en-suite shower) hover somewhere between average and good. Certainly nothing to moan about though, the TV was rather large with a decent choice of channels, the shower was between average and good and the most randomly pleasing thing I found was there were about 60,000 (slight exaggeration perhaps) lights in the room so you could get the lighting exactly right. Simple minds I guess......
Liked the guest TV room, nicely done out and comfortable, if not a little devoid of seating. Residents kitchens were kept clean and DIDN'T STINK OUT THE PLACE which is a bonus. Slightly annoying that you have to get in touch with the staff to use the laundry but hey-ho.
Something somewhere nags me this should be a 3 rated hotel. A louder something I can't put my finger on tells me 4. I'd say 3.5 but the clincher is the price, it is pretty cheap for a) Launceston and b) What you get. So a 4 rating it gets :-)More
