When my friend and I arrived at the hotel, we were the last to check in at around 10.30pm. We were greeted by Stephan, who is quite the character, and his friendly demeanor was much appreciated after the shocking flight that we had just been on.
The location of this historical hotel is fantastic. Less than a 5 minute walk to City Park, and may be a 20 minute stroll into the city centre where all the shopping is (Depending on how fast you stroll). The gorge is also about a 15-20minute stroll away.
There is a communal kitchen for those who want to cook to save money and also a laundromat to do your washing on extended stays. Other great incentives was free WI-FI in all the hotel rooms, and also free parking on the street (after 5-5.30pm). For those with hire cars/private cars, you can park just to the side of the hotel if you need to before 5.30pm. We didnt have a problem as we always returned to the hotel after 5pm everyday.
The walls are thin, so you may want to re-think any conversations or actions that you dont want other people hearing. For a budget hotel, you get what you pay for. Our rubbish wasnt removed from our rooms for the entire time we stayed there (which was approx a week), and we didnt get fresh towels. We were out the majority of the day and only came back to shower and sleep.
Please keep in mind that you are staying in a historical building, so rooms are not as updated as the ones you would find at say, a Holiday Inn or the Grand Chancellor next door.
Overall, we enjoyed our time at the Fawkner Inn!

We are two middle aged ladies who travel around quite a lot, we booked a twin room with ensuite for a week, wich is very hard to find, as usually we have to share a bathroom, for a cake confrence. The staff were very good to us throughout our stay and made us feel very welcome, The dumb waiter was an added bonus for us as we always have lots of luggage, stairs were a bit of a climb but hey what a way to get your daily exercise.
Laundry and common rooms as well as a pool table and two open fires to keep the toes warm. frount doors are locked of an evening so it really makes you feel safe.
We were greeted each morning and evening by Stephane and his dog who made us feel safe and even more at home. We will be returning again and highly recomended this accomadation to all the ladies in our vintage.

Room Tip: travel lite as you always pick up a few souviners along the way

The Batman Fawkner Inn is a beautiful, historic hotel centrally located in Launceston. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms were basic and clean. The kitchen facilities were also clean. It was a great value for the money.
